The ace filmmaker turns 44 today…
Imtiaz Ali has proved his mettle as a writer director for over a decade now. If Shah Rukh Khan is the king of romance onscreen, he, for sure, is the king of romance behind the cameras. His movies give romance a different take altogether and people are simply wowed by them. On his special day, I thought why not have a look at some of the romantic dialogues from his movies, which prove the inevitable fact that he is the best director when it comes to romance. Have a look…
Highway
Only Imtiaz Ali could have thought of the fact that a young girl on being kidnapped could actually NOT be frightened and be happy to finally get out of her home. Of course, the characters were wonderfully portrayed by Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda too, who brought reality to these characters written by Imtiaz.
Cocktail
Imtiaz may have just written the story, but it was he brought forward the fact to Indian men that however sexy and hot a girl you may vie for, at the end you end up marrying the homely girl. It maybe a botched up concept, but it’s pretty much true. Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty may not have had a lot to better the story line, but Deepika Padukone taking a complete 360 degree turn in her career, made this her best performance ever.
Rockstar
We all must have heard rock artists singing, but never had we thought what went behind the making of a rockstar. Imtiaz brought to common knowledge that only when there is a broken heart, does a singer truly become a Rockstar. To top his story line, there was Ranbir Kapoor, who mastered the role to perfection.
Love Aaj Kal
Romance is different in our generation and our elders prove that to us always. However, Imtiaz proved to us that in both the generations the romantic quotient is the same, but the way it is expressed may be different. Beautifully portrayed by Saif Ali Khan, this film truly changed the new generations perceptions about the term ‘love’ when the elders spoke about it.
Jab We Met
There is a madness in love. When that love teaches you to go ahead and change your outlook towards life, it means the director has shown something special. Imtiaz did that here. With Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor brilliant acting, the story just defined the saying, “You will end up in life with that person only with whom it’s destined, however hard you try to change it, you can’t.”
Socha Na Tha
No guy wants to go bride hunting with their parents. Same applies to the girls. But here are two people who become friends on that one single meeting. No one would have ever thought that this sort of romance would be possible, but Imtiaz proved it in his very first directorial. The aloofness portrayed by Abhay Deol and Aisha Talkia and their romantic endeavour was fabulously shown.
There may be many other directors who would have made life altering romantic films, but when I look down the past ten years of my life, this guy taught me more about romance than anyone else could ever do. Happy birthday Imtiaz Ali! Keep making us fall in love over and over again!
