After JD Majethia’s Khichdi: The Movie, a film that took television series Khichdi to the next level, now we ready ourselves for another well known show on SAB TV to make its Bollywood debut
Asit Modi, the man behind popular television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on SABTV is busy putting a perfect script for the movie in place. “Yes, I am planning to make a movie on Taarak Mehta…. The film is in its scripting stage. I have to take this call because of the viewers` request. They have been requesting me to make a film on TMKOC,” he said in an interview. And we’re sure that all those who are familiar with this show’s cast and its perfect comic timing will squeal with delight at this news.
But will the film star only the characters that have been driving the show? “In my film, I assure you, I will involve film celebrities. I have already approached many of them. I will soon make an official announcement. These days comedy films are working very well. So I believe this is the right time. I am very excited about the film. It will go on the floors in 2013,” Modi said. Whoa, could it get better!
So does Khichdi: The Movie’s success on the big screen play a role in this decision? “Khichdi basically targetted the Gujarati audience, but the reach of TMKOC is wider. It doesn’t focus only on Gujarati families. So there is no comparison between the films. We have mixed culture in our serial and now it has become a brand,” Asit Modi clarifies.
But all this talk about television serials jumping the set boundaries only makes us wonder about the plight of TV actors who work ’round the clock to keep the shows running. And the plan of making a serial into a movie must be stretching their working hours, no? So how will Jethalal Gada and his co-residents of Gokuldhaam society juggle all this? Will TMKOC go off air once the movie goes on the floors in 2013? Guess only time will tell.
