The eagerly awaited sequel to Dabangg faces a plagiarism roadblock on the way to its release
In recent times, before almost every big ticket release, there usually occurs a handful of small and big controversies which could at times harm or promote the film. And when your film is as big as Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan, the level of controversy goes up a notch!
And this time the hit song Pandey jee seeti bajaye has come in the eye of a storm. Yesteryear filmmaker and lyricist Shailendra’s family has alleged that the song has been copied from the famous track Chalat musafir from the filmmaker’s 1966 film Teesri Kasam. The music directors of Dabangg 2 on the other hand say that Pandey jee is a folk song and so the question of plagiarism doesn’t arise. Well, it remains to be seen whether Shailendra’s family will move court, but we guess the audiences can listen to both tracks and decide for themselves.
Meanwhile, a second and rather ugly controversy has flared up, and this time it is the censor board that has initiated it. They have asked the film’s director Arbaaz Khan to edit some scenes in the movie in which the national emblem that is shown in Chulbul Pandey’s police station is displayed incorrectly. And while Arbaaz couldn’t agree to the cut the important scenes that are based in the police station, the director has gone ahead and blurred out the emblem.
Well, now we’re sure that some of these controversies are as serious as it can get, and Arbaaz better have his head cleared to get the basics right. And we hope that he has done a better job at directing the movie than he has apparently done while supervising the set designs!
