The Rockstar chick will be stepping into the shoes of a reporter and sharing screen space with John Abraham

Nargis Fakhri has finally managed to bag a role in Shoojit Sircar’s next film Madras Café, which is based on LTTE’s activities in Sri Lanka. A hardcore political thriller, Shoojit refuses to divulge any further details of the film. The Vicky Donor director is confident that Nargis will surprise everyone with her performance. He also hopes that people will like the unusual pairing of Nargis and John Abraham. But can the two manage to light up the screens and keep us hooked on to the film? We have our doubts since Nargis was thrashed by the critics for her hamming act in Rockstar and we don’t look up to John’s acting either. The combo sounds super thanda already.

Since the film deals with such a serious subject, we wonder why the makers couldn’t settle for an actor who has the potential to give a strong performance – say someone like Konkana Sen Sharma or Nandita Das.

Madras Café has been under the scanner for quite some time now and the movie has undergone several changes. First there were issues with the title of the flick- it was changed from Jaffna to Madras Café, then Bengali star Prosenjit who was supposed to do a meaty role in the film backed out ‘coz his character didn’t turn out the way it was originally supposed to be and now the makers are trying hard to rope in South actor Mohanlal for the role.

Well despite all these, the film’s subject still sounds interesting. But after seeing Ms Fakhri not do much justice to her first film, we wonder if she still deserves the benefit of the doubt. What do you think readers?
