Vishesh Films has the reputation of creating entertaining music for films and there was a time when one waited for a new soundtrack to be launched. But of late the music coming out of the Bhatt school of filmmaking – Raaz 3 and Jism 2 – has been disappointing. Also, Murder and Murder 2 had a few memorable numbers and so you expect the third offering in the franchise to at least live up to the brand image, if not craft new levels of cinematic brilliance.
First up on the Murder 3 album is a dance track called Jaata Hai Tujh Tak sung Nikhil D’Souza. It’s got all the ingredients to make a good dance number – upbeat tempo, synths, techno samples and beats. What it lacks is freshness. There’s also a film version of this song which is not very different and doesn’t need to be in this album.
The second number Hum jee lenge is a heartbreak number composed by a band called Roxen. Lyrics like Duniya ke rishton me to yeh hota hai, Laila aur Majnu bhi to ek doosre se juda hai are plain boring and for the most part sound like they were written for an entirely different tune! The guitar portions are good.
Then there’s the love song – Teri jhuki nazar, sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali. Shafqat’s strength is the power in his voice and he touches high pitch with great ease. The tune sounds monotonous though and listening to the entire song becomes tedious.
Next up is Mat aazma re and its opening – a violin tune – resembles Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap ka suroor. KK sings this catchy song with utmost passion and manages to hook you in some parts. A song tailor-made for Emraan Hashmi!
The music of Murder 3 is nowhere close to its predecessors and there is just one word to describe it: monotonous. The lack of female vocals also makes it a tad boring. Pritam composes a made to order soundtrack for the Bhatts – with a couple of passionate love songs, a dance track and a heartbreak number thrown in. Nothing worth writing home about…
