Ram Gopal Varma’s thriller based on the Mumbai terror attacks and John Abraham’s ‘unusual’ love story failed to draw audiences to the theaters. Meanwhile, Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che continued to rule the ticket counters

Ram Gopal Varma is staring at yet another stinker. His recently released venture The Attacks of 26/11 based on the terror attacks of November 2008 has failed to generate much interest amongst the audiences. With most theaters recording a dismal occupancy of 12-20 percent, RGV’s thriller starring Nana Patekar and Atul Kulkarni hasn’t got the response the director was anticipating. The movie netted less than a crore on the opening day at the box office. On Saturday though, the bookings slightly picked up as it bagged around Rs 1.2 crores. Add to it Sunday’s collection of another Rs 1.3 crores and the total net collection on the opening weekend for The Attacks of 26/11 has just inched past Rs 3 crores.

I Me Aur Main – starring John Abraham, Chitrangda Singh and Prachi Desai – also released alongside RGV’s film. Director Kapil Sharma’s movie was touted as an unconventional love story, but even this production, which received mixed reviews from the critics, got an average response at the box office. The film collected Rs 1.45 crores on Friday, and on Saturday it bagged another Rs 1.75 crores. By Sunday, the three-day total was expected to cross Rs 4 crores.

While the two new releases did not quite get a warm welcome at the BO this weekend, Abhishek Kapoor’s much appreciated film Kai Po Che (which released last Friday) continued to get a fantastic response even in its second weekend. After collecting close to Rs 30 crores in the first three days of its release, the movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s popular fiction The 3 Mistakes Of My Life earned another Rs 12 crores this weekend.
