The queen of Indian television says that her new show revolving around daayans doesn’t encourage superstitions; it’s just a folklore
Director–producer Vishal Bhardwaj has collaborated with the soap queen Ekta Kapoor and come up with a unique way of promoting their horror flick Ek Thi Daayan starring Emraan Hashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi. The duo has developed eight stories for the small screen revolving around the topic of daayans titled Ek Thhi Naayka.
The show will air on Life OK and feature top eight actors of the Indian television industry – Kritika Kamra, Shweta Tiwari, Sakshi Tanwar, Mouli Ganguly, Smriti Irani, Aamna Sharif, Pooja Gor and Ankita Lokhande – most of who’ve been launched into the industry by Ekta herself.
There was a lot of conjecture about the show promoting superstitions and black magic. Ekta clarified, “Ek Thhi Naayka is purely a work of fiction. We are not promoting superstition.”
She went on to explain, “Like Hollywood makes horror flicks around their folklore – vampires, we are telling the Indian folklore. We are using different elements in the story to see how a society takes folklore and twists it for their own benefits at times. We’ve tried our best to provide entertainment and a message through our stories.”
The concept indeed looks pretty interesting, what do you think readers?
