S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were picked up by the police last night on spot fixing charges
The name IPL has been synonymous with controversy, though something as serious as match fixing hadn’t happened so far. However, the big bad word has stuck IPL 2013 as three players – S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested by the police for alleged spot fixing.
All three, belonging to Shilpa Shetty’s Rajasthan Royals, were arrested yesterday night. While Sreesanth was picked up from Mumbai after the match against Mumbai Indians, the other two were arrested from their hotel in the capital by the special cell of the Delhi police.
The Rajasthan Royals management issued a statement this morning saying, “We have been informed that three of our players have been called in for investigation on spot-fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise. We are in touch with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.”
Shilpa too tweeted about the incident, “We @#RR in shock with this news,coming to terms with it.Will react once we have more info and concrete evidence on the matter. RR is a team that Fights with integrity,Rahul being a front runner..Sad this has happened so close to the Playoffs. This too shall pass.” said the actor.
