Ravi Chopra, son of legendary filmmaker BR Chopra, is in a financial mess and may need to sell all his property

Will the sun set over the production house that the legendary BR Chopra founded over five decades ago? It seems like it will, considering the recent reports that Ravi Chopra, son of BR Chopra – who made unforgettable films like Naya Daur and Pati Patni Aur Woh – is mired in a terrible financial crisis.

Ravi, also a director and responsible for making Mahabharat – one of the most popular shows in the history of Indian television – may have to sell a string of properties that he owns to clear creditors’ dues. As per a ruling by the High Court Ravi, who owes around Rs 32 crore to various creditors, needs to clear his dues before April next year, or he will stand to forfeit all his property.

Unfortunately, this will not be easy. Ravi has had a tough decade as his two most recent films – Babul and Bhoothnath – flopped and he suffered heavy losses. What is most shocking is that he may even have to sell the BR Chopra House at Juhu, a mansion that has seen the best days of filmdom and some of the swankiest parties in its time. Other properties that may have to be sold include, besides two more bungalows in Khar, an apartment in Worli, a few apartments in Juhu and a piece of land in Raigad.

There have been no comments from Ravi on this, nor have uncle Yash Chopra and cousin Aditya Chopra said anything on the matter. Well, in tough times, it’s usually family that we all count on, so here’s hoping that the Chopras come together to salvage their heritage and tide over the rough patch. All the best, RC!
