Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay premiere: Revisiting a masterpiece!

Mira Nair held a special premiere of her 1988 film recently in Mumbai. The internationally-acclaimed filmmaker also released the trailer of her next venture, The Reluctant Fundamentalist

Considered one of the best movies ever made (and the New York Times made that claim, not us!), Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay was premiered once again nearly 25 years after its first release. On the glorious night of March 16, 2013, Mira Nair celebrated the re-release of her iconic production along with cast members of the movie at Cinemax in Mumbai.

The much celebrated and widely acclaimed film is all set to hit the screens once again on March 22. After bagging numerous awards and recognition – including the prestigious Golden Camera Award and Audience Awards at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989 – this production has acquired cult status. Nair’s portrayal of the day-to-day life of children living on the streets of Mumbai is both terrific and terrifying. Cinegoers can now revisit the movie and cherish the cinematic treat.

Nair wanted film buffs to experience the magic of her film, so the special screening was held with writers of the film and celebs at the premiere. Sooni Taraporewala, Richa Chadda, Aanjjan Shrivastava, Raghubir Yadav, Onir, Sanjay Suri, Rajat Kapoor, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Cyrus Sahukar, Arunoday Singh and Hansa Vithal were in attendance.

Mira also chose the occasion to unveil the poster and trailer of her new movie, The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The film is based on Mohsin Hamid’s bestselling novel of the same name and stars Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Riz Ahmed, Shabana Azmi, Om Puri and Meesha Shafi. PVR Pictures will release it in May 2013.
