Priyanka Chopra shows off her sexy back!
Priyanka Chopra’s In My City features on American Idol
The Barfi! star’s first single now travels to the sets of the hit reality TV show
Priyanka Chopra must have been in for a pleasant surprise when her single In My City was played on the hit singing reality show American Idol last week.
The song was played during the episode where the finalists are flown to their home towns, and welcomed like true champions by screaming crowds. And as the contestants, all awed and shocked, give their reaction to such a warm welcoming by the fans, Pee Cee’s single plays on. Well, it might not be anything much, since it wasn’t a contestant singing the track. However, it’s a cool start for sure!
In fact, about the time the song was being played on American Idol, Priyanka was busy attending a concert of her music coach Samantha Edwards. Seems like Pee Cee is having her share of musical moments, right?
Qubool Hai: Will Tanveer wreck Asad and Zoya’s wedding?
The pre-wedding ceremonies are in full swing and our happy couple is about to tie the knot soon, but will Tanveer let it happen?
Qubool Hai is witnessing some festive mood with Asad Ahmed Khan and Zoya Farooqui’s nikaah around the corner, but Tanveer is doing just about everything to disrupt the wedding.
While Asad and Zoya are in love, they are not yet ready to reveal their true feelings to each other just ‘coz their egos won’t permit it. Unfortunately, Tanveer is using this silence to break them apart and even though it bugs the hell out of us, there is nothing much we can do about it.
Asad’s mother Dilshaad knows very well that Asad and Zoya love each other and their continuous bickering is just a proof of this, but Tanveer’s constant nagging makes her doubt her own decision, but we just hope she doesn’t take it too seriously.
If rumours are to be believed, in the upcoming episodes, Tanveer will hatch some major plan to separate the couple forever. But will she succeed or not – that remains to be seen.
Sonam Kapoor wears a saree at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival
On opening day, the Bollywood babe was seen in a saree with a full sleeved blouse and gorgeous drop earrings
Sonam Kapoor was seen on the terrace of her hotel posing with film critic-writer Rajeev Masand at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival. Ms K was at her usual fashionable best. She was seen in a grey and black Huemn saree – a label owned by designers Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty. The Raanjhanaa actor spiced up her stylish drape with classy long Suhani Pittie gold earrings and Lanvin flats. She didn’t go overboard with the make-up and pulled her hair back and up, which impressed us.
The babe was also seen getting all friendly with Frieda Pinto. While Freida – her hair flying a little in the Riviera sea breeze – wore a pretty green and black dress with heels, SK looked like quite the fashion diva in that funky version of the ethnic style.
Sonam has started out well, in the shades of grey and black she seems to like at the event – remember that gorgeous Jean Paul Gaultier gown she wore on her first trip to the Cannes red carpet? Now we wait to see what she chooses next for more celeb-crowded events….
Is Kareena Kapoor avoiding Ranveer Singh?
The begum of Pataudi Kareena Kapoor Khan seems to be maintaining a safe distance from Ranveer ‘Casanova’ Singh, who has always had a ‘thing’ for the Kapoor hottie
Kareena Kapoor Khan first jumped at the prospect of working with her first cousin Ranbir Kapoor when director Zoya Akhtar planned to cast the two superstars from the same filmi khaandaan in her next project. Zoya was keen to revive Bollywood’s long forgotten brother-sister jodi in the movies.
Bebo was more than happy to be paired with her talented cousin for the film. But now, with Ranbir opting out of the project citing date clashes and Ranveer Singh being pulled in, KKK is not particularly interested in doing the role, we hear. She is having second thoughts about the character she plays and whether she would be convincing enough when pitted against someone who is not her ‘brother’.
We understand Bebo’s reasons…sort of. After all, as Ranbir is a performer of the highest degree and his versatility would have made this project even more promising, she could feel a kind of disappointment that goes way beyond the sibling bonding thing. But the replacement – Ranveer aka Casanova Singh – seems to have given the stylish Bebo jitters…no? Interestingly, some months ago Bebo turned down a film offer- Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ramleela, to be precise – that has Ranveer playing the lead role. Deepika Padukone was roped in to play the part originally sketched for Kareena.
Clearly, Kareena has something against the Singh dude. Perhaps Ranveer’s over-the-top flirtatious image is not working his favour and Bebo is in no mood to take the risk of working with that vibe when he is supposed to be her brother…onscreen, of course. To make matters worse, Ranveer declared in a TV chat show that he has a ‘thing’ for the bootylicious Kapoor babe. In this scenario, wethinks it would make sense for the newly married Bebo to steer clear of films with actors who are over-friendly, or give off that vibe. And given her hubby’s Saifu’s volatile temper, wifey Kareena should play it safe, wethinks!
Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol admit that they can’t dance
In the Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 song Main aidaan hi nachna, the Deols finally confess that they are offbeat dancers but also say that its their adaa!
Besides acting talent and good looks, a Bollywood hero should also know how to dance, especially onscreen! And in B-town, there’s no dearth of actors who can shake their booty in style. But what about the people like the Deols – Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol – the rhythm-deprived men with two left feet, who put us off with their dance moves? Well, this time we translate the lyrics of their Hindi-Punjabi fun number Main aidaan hi nachna into English and mind you, it’s as good as their acting and not their dancing. Take a look!
I will dance like this only
Ho main taan aidaan hi nachna
Main toh naach pasand aise hi
Ho I so like this only dance
Rhythm ho desi ya velaiti
Hamein toh koi fikar ni retti
Marzi ke mai chadh chadh gaye stage

Wish I climb climb gone stage
But do no one sparsh no
I will dance like this only
Main aidaan hi nachna haaye nachna

Priyanka Chopra adopts a lioness!
The wildest cat of B-town will play mommy to a real life lioness
When it comes to animals, the maximum that our celebrities do is get themselves clicked all skimpy and sexy for garish or cute posters, depending on what the issue they are lending their support to is. But there are very few who actually go out and do something about it. And Priyanka Chopra, we can safely say, is one among them.
The jungli billi from Don 2 has decided to adopt a cat. And no, it’s not your domestic kitten that you can play with at home. The actor has decided to adopt a lioness for one year. The animal named Sundari from Birsa Munda Zoological Park in Ormanjhi near Ranchi, Jharkhand, will be under PeeCee’s care for a year, although she can’t get the big cat home and it will stay in the zoo. Earlier too, Priyanka had adopted a tigress called Durga from the same place.
Seems like Piggy Chops has a fetish for wild cats!
Ghagra song from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Ranbir Kapoor steals a kiss from Madhuri Dixit!
Ranboo and Mads share screen space for the first time in this peppy number from the Ayan Mukerji movie
Ranbir Kapoor had said in a recent interview that Madhuri Dixit was his one true crush ever since he was a kid. And today, Ranbir has got to shake a leg with his crush in Ayan Mukerji’s directorial venture, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
In the song Ghagra, which has some awesome and colourful set designs, we see a cocky Ranbir trying to court a haughty Madhuri. Although it’s not a high energy dance number, something we would have ideally liked to see considering that they both are excellent dancers, the two make up for it with their electric chemistry. What’s interesting is that Mads’ character is called Mohini, the name she had in the iconic Ek do teen song too.
Rekha Bhardwaj’s voice is almost magical and sails through all the glimmer and gloss with its innocence and mischief intact. And as we said, though we like the song, we would have definitely loved to see some high energy moves onscreen!

Subhash Ghai to remake Hero with Sunil Shetty’s daughter and Aditya Pancholi’s son in the lead!
The Showman of Bollywood will introduce two new actors – Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty – to reprise the role of Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri in the remake of the 1983 musical hit
Subhash Ghai, known for his big budget multi-starrers, has joined the bandwagon of the new generation of filmmakers obsessed with remakes and sequels. The showman, we hear, is remaking his own musical hit Hero which made Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri overnight stars.
Ghai has already signed Aditya Pancholi’s son, Sooraj Pancholi and Sunil Shetty’s daughter, Athiya Shetty to reprise Jackie and Meenakshi’s roles. While it is still not clear who will direct the project (we wonder if Ghai will take on the mantle), the film is likely to go on floors by the end of this year after the Whistling Woods International head honcho finishes shooting Kaanchi. When we verified the story with Sunil, the proud father confirmed it by sending us a text message saying, ‘Yes.’
Earlier, there were several reports that said Athiya would debut with none other than Ranbir Kapoor! Then there were talks about her debuting with Jackie’s son Tiger Shroff in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heropanti.
Anyway, the question is, will Sooraj live up to the movie’s title like Jaggu dada did three decades ago? And will Athiya make a splashing debut like Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha? We wish the aspiring actors all the luck and wait to see how many fireworks this jodi brings, on and off screen!
Ship of Theseus teaser: This Kiran Rao production looks like a winner!
The Anand Gandhi directorial is a story of three people and the journey they share together!
With Kiran Rao jumping into production for director Anand Gandhi’s multiple award winning film Ship of Theseus, you can be sure that this is no ordinary movie.
The film takes on the age old paradox – If the parts of a ship are replaced, bit-by-bit, is it still the same ship? – and tries to understand human relationships through the stories of its three main characters. In this teaser, you can see some absolute brilliant moments of cinematography. Interestingly, one of the awards that it won at the Tokyo International Film Festival was for its brilliant visuals.
With a cast of all fresh faces – Aida El-Kashef, Neeraj Kabi and Sohum Shah – Ship of Theseus promises to be a breath of fresh air and reeks of independent cinema right from the start! We can’t wait to watch the movie that releases in India on June 19.

BollywoodLife Anniversary: Actors, filmmakers, experimenters – What is the future of Bollywood directors?
With the kind of movies that are being made in Bollywood changing so fast, we just had to look at what filmmakers could do more of in the future
Bollywood has grown tremendously in the last few years. And in the two years that we’ve been tracking the filmbiz, hawk-eyed, following every single movie that hits the screens, reporting on each performer who is featured, we have a few informed comments to make. And while we’re quite happy with the progress that Bollywood has made in the past year, we look at what we want to see change in the industry.
Actor to filmmaker: Just as Aamir Khan did with Taare Zameen Par, Nandita Das with Firaaq and Guru Dutt before either with Pyaasa, we definitely want to see more actors wearing the director’s cap and getting their hands dirty behind the camera for a change. And we know for a fact that B-town’s top actors aren’t just pretty faces. Those who have expressed a willingness to wield the megaphone are Imran Khan, John Abraham, Abhay Deol and Kangna Ranaut. So let’s see who is first in successfully leading this change!
Better sets: If you compare older movies with those made today, leaving aside the classics, production values have indeed improved considerably. Today, it’s not only Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s over the top, garish films that display a superior quality of sets and background. Even smaller films are paying a lot of attention to detail. In movies like Kahaani and Gangs of Wasseypur, the set design has been almost perfect and up to international standards. But yes, we definitely want to see more magic from the technicians of B-town!
More original scripts: While well made, inspired movies are all very well, we would rather see more original movies being made. After all, most sources (read: Hollywood films) where Bollywood movies are inspired from don’t fit too well into the Indian milieu. Add to that the trend of remaking films from the South of our own country. We definitely want overzealous producers to take it easy on Southern remakes, since Salman Khan has almost become a Hindi-speaking copy of Superstar Rajinikanth since he started acting in them!
Good animation films: While India does a lot of high quality animation work for Hollywood, our own industry lacks good films of this kind. With the exception of Hanuman Returns and Delhi Safari, there aren’t too many being made. So yes, a few high quality animation films released every year would definitely be awesome! As a rider to this, Indian film awards need to look at recognising animators for their efforts. That’d definitely set us on the right track, wethinks!
Go slow on the sequels: We’ve just about had it with sequels. Honestly, what sense does it make to keep going on the same ghisa pita story track that doesn’t really make sense? At last count, about ten sequels are supposed to hit the screens over the next year. So unless the producers feel that these part-two projects have a definite aim – besides milking the franchise name for what it’s worth – we want to see fresh new stories rather than waiting for a Dabangg 7 or a Bodyguard 4 to watch Salman whack grandchildren of the villains he killed in Dabangg 3!
BollywoodLife anniversary special: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh – Will these stars change the definition of ‘acting’ forever?
The business of acting – just like so much else that is evolving in the glorious world of Indian cinema – is changing radically. There are stars who are getting better at their craft with every film and transforming themselves into powerful actors, true performers, in the process. Will these individuals change movies for the better with their calculated moves and commendable characters? You tell us…
There are actors and then there are stars. Actors are those who become the characters they play. The likes of Boman Irani, Paresh Rawal, Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and now Rishi Kapoor come instantly to mind when you think of performers who slip into the skin of the role they play, effortlessly and convincingly. The performer takes a back seat and the character – with all his or her hopes, worst fears, insecurities, mistakes, triumphs and human frailties – comes to the fore.
Stars, on the other hand, convert the characters they play into blown-up versions of themselves, becoming larger than life figures with an impossible to breach aura and that incredible swagger. Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan – and dare we say it! – Amitabh Bachchan are synonymous with characters like Rahul, Prem and Vijay respectively. For the indelible impressions they have left on our collective consciousness with both their on- and off-screen personalities, these actors are demi-gods.
Today, with the changing dynamics of Hindi movies, these million-buck babies want more; they now aspire to being actors rather than just stars. Going by Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in Rockstar and Barfi! or Priyanka Chopra’s act in Kaminey and Saat Khoon Maaf or, for that matter, Rani Mukerji’s roles in Talaash and Bombay Talkies, one can sense that the definition of ‘acting’ is changing…and fast. And audiences today are far more than accepting of this evolution. Take a look at the list of star performers who will rock it with their talent in the days to come….

Bollywood Life anniversary special: Will original concepts overtake sequels and remakes?
It’s high time we start looking ahead to what B-town filmmakers have in store… strictly story wise, of course! Come on, film buffs, how long are you going to survive on sequels, remakes and formulaic films?
For the last couple of years, we have been seeing how filmmakers, especially good storytellers like Rajkumar Hirani, Anurag Kashyap, Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti who particularly moved us with their brilliance, shook our sensibilities with their novel ideas and narrative styles. In Bollywood, only a handful have the power to influence a mass and a niche audience, and their way of thinking. Deviating from the usual formulaic films, these dreamers view the medium of cinema from a hatke perspective, looking at life through the transparent glass of their own minds.
After a brief glimpse of the vast and infinite vision of such visionaries, we look forward to seeing the perspective of the younger generation of talented writers and their understanding of cinema, story and characters on the 70 mm. On the second anniversary of BollywoodLife, we hope the fresh lot of writers can create for us new dreams…
More original ideas, fewer sequels and remakes: While discussing the trend of sequels and remakes and filmmakers’ obsession for them, Sajid Khan pointed out that there’s indeed a dearth of good writers and storytellers in Bollywood. He asked, ‘Where are today’s Salim Khan and Kader Khan?’ David Dhawan too echoed the same sentiments while talking to us few months ago. In the first half of 2013, we had more remakes and rewrites (as Sajid likes to call them) such as Race 2, Murder 3, Himmatwala, Chashme Baddoor, Shootout At Wadala and Aashiqui 2. Considering the pace at which Bollywood churns out movies year after year, it seems that filmmakers and production houses prefer to devote minimum time on a project and aim for maximum recovery. And that happens only because of the overwhelming unwillingness to think up and write a fresh story.
Big production houses should back good scripts: Had Jayantilal Gada, head honcho of Pen India Pvt Ltd not agreed to produce Kahaani, we would certainly have missed a worthwhile work from promising director Sujoy Ghosh and actor Vidya Balan. A novel genre should always be welcomed, but the industrywallas tend to run away from experimenting with anything new. After all, it takes courage and conviction to venture into unexplored territory while making the venture successful. It’s not really the attitude of the writer or the filmmaker who conceives the idea, but that of the producer that makes the difference. And it is most often that same producer who is reluctant to try something new.
A writer needs creative freedom: Quite often we complain about movies being unnecessarily stretched and ruined, as filmmakers, production houses and sometimes even actors want to incorporate item songs, dream sequences and explanations, thus killing the overall narrative of the film. If a good story is nudged in the right direction without hurdles, there will certainly be good scripts, thereby encouraging a well-made movie.
Biopics: It’s certainly not easy to make a biopic, but the concept works well with the audience. Only a few filmmakers have attempted to make movies based on real-life people or incidents, that too, successfully. After films like The Dirty Picture and Paan Singh Tomar, we would like to see how Farhan Akhtar’s biopic – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag on the legendary athlete Milkha Singh has turned out. Besides this, we look forward to Vidya Balan as MS Subbalakshmi in an untitled project and Ranbir Kapoor playing Kishore Kumar in Anurag Basu’s version of the late singer’s life.
The future of Bollywood music – Experimental mix of folk, rock, EDM and world sounds: BollywoodLife 2nd Anniversary
Bollywood’s music scene is bursting with new talent and a variety of singing styles, as music directors experiment with various sounds
AR Rahman’s revolutionary methods of composing music changed forever the way we look at Bollywood music. He brought in digital sounds and top of the line technology into recording studios. Over the years his Chennai studio has become an example of progressive music making. He also played a big role in taking Bollywood music to the world with his Oscar-winning Jai ho from Slumdog Millionaire. But apart from the big changes that we have seen coming into Hindi film music, there have been strong undercurrents too. The future trends of Bollywood music rest in the safe hands of the likes of Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekhar, Swanand Kirkire, Sneha Khanwalkar, Ram Sampath, Sachin-Jigar and the many more newcomers, and it looks like it will be an amalgamation of progressive world sounds, technology and Indian roots.
Folk influences
Peepli Live, Gangs Of Wasseypur and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola are great examples of filmmakers turning to their roots when it comes to the subjects they are composing for and, in turn, to folk music. Some amazing fusion sounds have come to the fore as these traditional melodies have been blended with western styles. But pure folk sounds too have found their way into mainstream music, and this will be the future of Indian film compositions.
A myriad authentic voices
There was a time when playback singing rested on the shoulders of just three or four main singers of the time. After the Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar and Mohommad Rafi phase came the time of Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy; later, it was a realml dominated by Sonu Nigam and Shaan. This kind of monopoly is now a thing of the past. A variety of independent voices have made a foray into playback singing, and have brought different singing styles into B-town.
Whether it’s jazz singer Shefali Alvares crooning to Tu mera hero from Desi Boyz and the Ek Mein Aur Ekk Tu title song or rock singer Suraj Jagan crooning Give me some sunshine from 3 Idiots and Jaa chudail from Delhi Belly, sounds – they are a-changing. In fact, Vishal Dadlani and Suraj bring their heavy voice and rock sensibility to Bollywood numbers, making them sound more authentic. Similarly, singers like Mohit Chauhan and Anushka Manchanda bring in their Indie-pop influences. Others like Shalmali Kholgade and Shilpa Rao bring freshness to playback singing.
Even folk singers from the heartland like have been used to great effect – remember Emotional atyachaar from Dev D and O womaniya from Gangs Of Wasseypur?
Content is king today and music composers are open to experimenting with voices from all over to bring authenticity to their music and thus to the subject of the film. This advent of rock, jazz, folk, heavy metal and pop singers will effect more change in coming days.
Collaborations
Akon can easily slip into a B-town dance number like Chammak challo and so can Kylie Minogue, who sang the Punjabi dance hit Chiggy wiggy. And we expect a lot more collaborations with western artistes. But apart from that, we see the emergence of a movie soundtrack with various artistes and composers collaborating to produce a hatke result. The days of one soundtrack, one composer could be over. Soundtracks like that of Nautanki Saala and Bombay Talkies might be the forerunners of this wave.
Electronic Dance Music
We haven’t seen EDM in its purest form in Bollywood yet, but many party numbers have now incorporated it – Angrezi beat from Cocktail, Slowly slowly from Go Goa Gone, Pardesi pardesi from Dev D, Sada dil vi tu from Any Body Can Dance and several others. In the future we hope for a lot more authentic dubstep, trance and techno, laced with digital sounds and samples.
Salman Khan visits Sanjay Dutt before he goes to jail

Sanjay Dutt to surrender at 4pm before special TADA court
The actor, convicted for possession of arms in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, will spend the next three-and-a-half years in jail
Since last night, Sanjay, 53, has been getting phone calls and visits from friends, colleagues and well wishers. Prominent among them were actors Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan and director David Dhawan with whom he has always shared a special rapport. Today too, there were early morning prayers and celebrity visitors at Sanjay Dutt’s Bandra home, outside which stood hordes of fans, as the Bollywood actor prepared to return to prison on Thursday, May 16. Sanjay started the day with solemn prayers and a ‘havan’ conducted by a priest with his family members participating in the ceremonies, according to sources.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had declined Sanjay’s plea for additional time to serve his remaining three-and-a-half years’ sentence for his role in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
Sanjay will surrender before a special TADA court today at 4pm after the apex upheld his conviction, but reduced the six-year jail term to five. According to Bollywood circles, Bollywood’s Munnabhai has resigned himself to serving the remaining tenure of his sentence and returning to jail without creating more controversies. Sanjay had first spent 18 months in jail in 1993-95 and another 15 months in 1995-97, followed by a brief stint of seven months in 2006-07.
Though the Mumbai Police’s plans to handle Sanjay’s surrender are not yet known, officials indicate that he may arrive in special TADA Court post-lunch amid tight security, at his residence, en route and in the court precincts in south Mumbai.
After completing the surrender formalities, he will be whisked off to the high-security Arthur Road Central Jail – which usually houses undertrials – in congested south-central Mumbai. Finally, he will be shifted to another regular jail either at Yerawada Pune, Nashik or the Nagpur Central jail. Police officials were tight-lipped about the final destination.
Deepika Padukone promotes Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Jabong

Will Ranbir Kapoor drop the towel and do a full frontal nude scene?
The Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani actor is willing to do frontal nudity scenes. Now isn’t that too much of a ‘revelation’ from the Kapoor lad?
Ranbir Kapoor is all set to do ‘it’ again! After showing his pert butt in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007, the Kapoor scion is all set to show his skin once again. In fact the 30-year-old star will go a step further to showcase his masculinity and celebrate his manhood! The candid confession has come absolutely unabashedly straight from the horse’s mouth.
Those who remember the honey-eyed star dropping his towel to reveal more than err we are used to will agree that Kapoor junior did the showcasing effortlessly. Girls went absolutely berserk with the new cutie that Ranbir was back then, both for his charm and his bold attitude. But wasn’t the actor a bit uncomfortable doing the butt show? “There was not a moment of awkwardness when I did that scene in Saawariya. I was butt naked in front of strangers on the set and I wasn’t ashamed of myself. People started relating to me and perhaps came to theatres because of that scene,” said Ranbir in an interview.
Now that comment coming from an actor whose father Rishi Kapoor and grand uncle Shashi Kapoor too have done a butt show in their heydays is not really shocking. What is a bit surprising though is that Ranbir wants to go a step further. “I am shameless in front of the camera. I am even willing to do frontal nudity if the director wants me to,” added the Barfi! actor.
Woo, now that’s some food for thought for the collective naughty imaginations of Ranbir’s female fan club. And they must let their thoughts run wild before the Kapoor boy ends up doing something that will leave absolutely nothing for imagination!
