After making a power-packed comeback with Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to surprise us with Omung Kumar’s Sarbjit biopic co-starring Randeep Hooda in titular role. While it was revealed that the actress will be seen playing Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur. We now bring to you her never-seen-before look from the film where Ash is seen in a complete de-glam avatar sporting grey hair, spectacles and a dull brown salwar kameez! Here check it out!

For all that we know, the film narrates the heart breaking story of late Indian farmer, Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted and sentenced to death for terrorism and spying in Pakistan. Later, he was even attacked by inmates at a prison in Lahore, leading to his merciless death in April 2013. The film will be narrated through Ash aka Dalbir’s eyes who went door to door, knocking for her brother’s justice. This is how Dalbir looks:

Talking about Ash’s de-glam look, her make-up artist reveals, “Sarbjit’ is a very challenging film for me. For ‘Sarbjit’, I had to spend a lot of time on research. I am quite thrilled about this project. Since, Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) is playing Sarabjit’s sister (Dalbir Kaur) in the film, her look will be de-glam… with minimum make-up.”

As per reports, the film is divided into a vast schedule which includes shooting here from December then moving on to filming in various cities of Punjab like Amritsar, Malerkotla and Patiala in the month of January and finally the last leg of the schedule, that’ll be shot in Delhi in the month of February.

YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra is reportedly very upset with Kat! Read on to know the full story…

Aditya Chopra is known to work almost exclusively with actors and actresses he launches. Katrina Kaif was an exception. He offered her three films under his banner — Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Tha Tiger and Dhoom 3. The filmmaker and the actress became friends and had a healthy respect for each other. It was a mutual admiration society. Till Kat refused a film offered to her by him.

Says a source, “Adi is not a forgiving person. He felt slighted when Kat turned down Gunday when he offered it to her. The studio owner expects blind loyalty from his people. which is why the people who are launched by YRF swear allegiance to the studio every chance they get. He felt he’d done Kat a big favour by offering her some great roles and a chance to work with a director like Kabir Khan, when very few big directors had faith in her. He felt she should have reciprocated the gesture and agreed to act in Gunday, even if she wasn’t happy with her part.”

The source further adds, “Kat has been trying to build bridges with him ever since, but Adi is not in a forgiving mood for now. Strangely, even though her beau Ranbir Kapoor acted in a YRF film at the start of his career, they haven’t offered him another role in the last five years. Kat is hoping that Adi will have a change of heart soon. She has dropped in a few times at YRF but received an icy treatment from the producer-director. But she is hopeful.”

Salman Khan is reaching a milestone year with his upcoming birthday on December 27. The superstar turns 50 and his Sultan producer Aditya Chopra is planning a special gift. While the first look and teaser of the film that has Salman playing a wrestler is already out, sources say that Adi is busy putting together another teaser. “The first teaser was shot because he grew facial fuzz and had bulked up, but this one will see him in the wrestler avatar,” informs the source.

The shoot of the film is currently on in Karjat, but it will be wrapped up soon. The next schedule will begin from January 18 in Mumbai. “A massive set is being put up at Film City where Salman will shoot for two months. It will be an action-packed schedule for the actor who will be doing some kick-ass fight scenes. He will be bare-chested and sporting boxers throughout.”

Salman has put on around 14 kilos for the role and has undergone intense training in how to grapple, the floor work (important for fighters), how to kick, etc. So much so that he had confessed that the gruelling sessions were difficult and painful!

Bigg Boss is a journey that the contestants love. Even though they get embroiled in controversies and fights, no one is happy to leave the house. This Monday, the nominations procedure took place and it was revealed that Mandana Karimi, Suyyash Rai, Rochelle Maria Rao, Priya Malik, Gizele Thakral and Rishabh Sinha are nominated for eliminations this week.

The tension of eliminations has begun and the contestants are introspecting about their journey. While they were thinking about the eliminations, we asked the junta to give their verdict about who should be eliminated this week and this is what they have to say.

48 per cent people feel Suyyash Rai should be eliminated out of Salman Khan’s show this week. Wild card contestants Gizele Thakral, has received half the votes (24 per cent) Suyyash received for being eliminated. Rochelle (10 per cent), Mandana (8 percent), Priya ( 6 percent) and Rishabh (4 percent) are virtually safe with viewers wanting to watch them.

Suyyash Rai had this coming for him. Neither has he been performing very well in the tasks, nor has he been involved in any fights or controversies this week. He has just been trying to be loud, but no one has been bothered by his antics. He has been following and doing what girlfriend, Kishwer Merchantt says. People in the house also say Kishwer is more stronger than him. Apart from all this, last week’s threat from Suyyash to Mandana hasn’t gone down well with the viewers too. So basically, it’s highly likely that he will be eliminated from the show this weekend.

Apart from that, the others like Gizele, Mandana, Rishabh and Priya have been very active and involved in a few controversies. So, there chances of being eliminated are less.

The two have reunited on the big screen after a gap of five years!

Rohit Shetty’s much awaited Dilwale has finally hit theatres. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, the film is one of the biggest releases of 2015. So is the film worth the wait? Read on to find out….

What’s it about:

Dilwale is a Rohit Shetty film that breaks the stereotypes associated with his films. Yes there are the staple car blowing up scenes, the stand up comedy, lavish chase scenes and pre climax action extravaganza. Yet this time around the director has decided to use romance and love at the core of his script . Dilwale essentially is a love story that spans two generations. Shah Rukh Khan plays the dual role of Kali and Raj who faces a nemesis in the form of Kajol who comes back to haunt him after 15 years. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon play the young lovers whose romance is caught between the drama surrounding their siblings played by SRK and Kajol. The story revolves around two drug lords whose families Shah Rukh and Kajol come from and how they resolve the conflict to realise that true love binds them through the distance of time. Varun Sharma, Johnny Lever, Boman Irani and Sanjay Mishra provide comic relief through their supporting acts.

What’s hot: 

Rohit Shetty raises the roof with the production values. Dilwale is a good looking film. Despite the pre conceived notion that comes attached with his films, Rohit manages to create characters that retain your interest. The film works because of Shah Rukh Khan and his never ageing charm. Taking full advantage the two diverse time periods and characters, he goes for the kill. Between the two, it’s his portrayal of the subdued and understated Raj that stays with you. He not only looks like a million bucks with that beard and scruff but also flexes some serious muscle in a scene. Kajol steals the show in a very important scene in the first half that exposes her real intent. That fire in her eyes and that laugh we have come to love is back. Doesn’t make sense in talking about her chemistry with SRK cause that has withstood the test of time. Varun Dhawan’s comic timing is impeccable. He gets to showcase his funny side ample time in Dilwale and his co-star Kriti Sanon compliments him through the film. Gerua and Manma Emotion look stunning on the big screen.

What’s not:

There is a lot borrowed in Dilwale that stands out like a sore thumb. A scene between Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon is lifted frame by frame from the romantic hit Love Actually (the one with the card cues). Also Varun Sharma has a emotional breakdown where he talks about the woes of dating girls in todays time which has an uncanny resemblance to the Pyaar Ka Punchnama’s Karthik monologue scene. Also the climax is predictable and we hoped given the interesting first half, the ending would have been different.

What to do:

Rohit Shetty has tried something different with Dilwale and that’s an effort worth complimenting. Watch Dilwale for Shah Rukh-Kajol’s mesmerising chemistry and that last dialogue in the film that will make you go down the memory lane and realise why they are a jodi made in heaven!

BJP’s youth wing disrupts screenings of shows across India…

We all knew this was coming, but after a peaceful last few days we felt that everything was averted. But to every cinema lover’s nightmare, various shows of both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale have been cancelled after protest by BJP’s (Bharatiya Janta Party) youth wing – Bharatiya Janta Party Yuva Morcha.

The chaos started when BJP Yuva Morcha of Kothrud started protesting outside Citypride theatre in Pune. The theatre owners cancelled three morning shows of Bajirao Mastani because of the protest. The BJP youth wing are having a peaceful demonstration outside the theatre with banners in their hand. The cinema-goers, who had booked their tickets in advance, were in for a shock as they couldn’t see the film that they wanted to see since a long time.

However, it wasn’t just BM that was facing the heat. A few shows of Dilwale were cancelled in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) as BJP Yuva Morcha again protested the film’s release. A few posters were torn and slogans were sounded outside theatres.

Earlier as well, Shiv Sena had burned effigies of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and protested the bad portrayal of the Peshwas in the film. They felt the songs, dances and behaviour of the actors in the film to be distasteful.

MNS (Maharshtra Navnirman Sena) had also asked for a ban on Dilwale as Shah Rukh Khan had not helped drought hit farmers, but the Chennai flood victims. But both the protests subsided and we thought everything was over, however our worst nightmares are back to haunt us.

This Sunday, television is gonna be epic. The ratings for Colors channel is going to be an all time high. The Bigg Boss show will witness history. And I am no Nostradamus to say all this!

After all, any 4-year old kid can say that when Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan come together for any cause or event, it’s gonna be EPIC…totally in capital letters! And they are going to do so this Sunday, when Shah Rukh Khan will be the special guest on Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 9!

If you think I am over-exaggerating, just see how a single pic of theirs hugging Sultan style became viral within seconds! Every person, who is a fan of the series or not, of they are a fan of the actors or not, if they are Aamir Khan or not, will have their eyes glued on to their television screens as the two stars share the same space, and make Raakhee (their screen mother in Karan Arjun) go ecstatic and scream, “Mere Karan Arjun aa gaye!”

The Bajirao Mastani actor posted a very cute video of them yesterday night…

As Ranveer Singh wins thousands of hearts with his performance in Bajirao Mastani, he is surely getting more love after he posted this cute video of Deepika Padukone and him. The duo met yesterday and our Mastani (Deepika) gave Ranveer Singh a makeover.

If you remember Ranveer Singh had to undergo a vast transformation, personally and physically, for Bajirao Mastani. He shaved off his hair, grew his moustache in a certain way and what not. Now that the film has released and is busy collecting applauds, the lovebirds in the film and in real life (allegedly), seem to have celebrated the occasion in a different way.

In the video you will see Deepika Padukone chop off Ranveer Singh’s moustache and do a small victory dance. Yes, chopped off his moustache herself! She was apparently very happy that the ‘mooch’ was finally gone. We don’t know why she was so happy, maybe she likes her man clean-shaven! Ranveer Singh even got his beard trimmed and transformed his look again.

Meanwhile, Bajirao Mastani opened well with a good occupancy of about 65-75 per cent in single screen cinemas and 60-70 per cent in multiplexes across India. The film has been appreciated by a lot of people and many have even mentioned it is Ranveer Singh‘s best performance till date. However, it remains to be seen how it does at the box office, especially compared to its rival Dilwale,, which released on the same day.

In an exclusive chat with BollywoodLife, Kriti revealed a fun fact about Kajol that we weren’t aware of. Check it out, it’s hilarious!

The nation is eagerly waiting for 18th December. It’s the day of the big clash between Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Apart from this, die-hard Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol fans simply can’t wait to see the two reuniting on the big screen. While one of B-town’s most iconic jodis is set to entertain us in Rohit’s magnum opus, youngsters Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon are about to give us a fresh, happening Bollywood pair with this film. We all saw their sizzling chemistry in song Manma Emotion, and their off-screen camaraderie can’t escape the eye as well. I got a chance to interview this lively pair and had an exclusive chat with the two about Dilwale, their experience on working in the film, etc. We are aware of Varun and SRK’s brotherly bond. The two are playing siblings in Dilwale and similar seems to be their equation off-screen. Kriti on the other hand comes across as in total awe of Kajol and we have seen her raving about the actress on several occasions.

It’s but natural that after having worked with Kajol, Kriti would know a thing or few about Kajol that we aren’t aware of. When asked about the same, Kriti answered ,” ”When she hasn’t spoken for a long time, be it on a flight or anything, she gets verbal diarrhoea. And then she just wants to get down and then talk to someone.” Lulz, we can so picture that!

The film’s mass appeal might help it make a new record…

Dilwale, directed by Rohit Shetty, was always expected to have a cracker of an opening. The film’s mass appeal and amazing star cast appealed to the audience from day one and the film opened with 90-100 per cent occupancies in single screen cinemas, while it had about 85-95 per cent occupancy at the multiplexes.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo also had a similar, but a little less occupancy (80-90 per cent) on the opening day, even though it was a holiday. But, it has to be noted that Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had more number of screens as compared to Dilwale. However, trade suggests that there is a good chance that Dilwale will have a better opening in most of the circuits in India, especially big cities.

Rajender Singh Jyala, VP of programming and distribution for Inox, revealed to us yesterday, “Dilwale has opened well. It is a masala entertainer for the masses and hence, it will do very well at the box office.”

On the other hand, things are going pretty slow for Bajirao Mastani. The film has done well, but not as compared to Dilwale. Both the films managed to get a good number of screens, but the occupancy of Bajirao Mastani was 65-75 per cent at single screens and 60-70 per cent at multiplexes. Many shows were cancelled in Pune, from where they expected to do good business, after protests from political organisations. Bajirao Mastani will do well in Maharashtra, but there is doubt about other key markets.

It remains to be seen if Bajirao Mastani will be able to match Dilwale. Also, if Dilwale will be able to beat Prem Ratan Dhan Payo‘s opening day figures. What do you think about both the scenarios? Tell us in the comments section below!

Priyanka Chopra talks about Bajirao Mastani and the big clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale…

Whether it’s a lead role, a cameo or an item number, Priyanka Chopra has always managed to turn heads. And she knows it. Despite being away from home for her Quantico shoots, PeeCee took some time out of her schedule to talk about her movie Bajirao Mastani, which she says is Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s film. Here the actress talks about her inner conflicts while playing Kashibai and clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale.

Are you underplaying it with Bajirao Mastani?

(Laughs) No, I am not underplaying it at all. Actually, I was stuck with my commitments for Quantico and that’s why I could not be back for the promotions. And honestly, it’s eventually about Bajirao and Mastani’s forbidden love story. Of course, Kashibai is a huge, integral part of the film. What happens to her forms a big chunk of the story but the film is driven by Ranveer and Deepika’s love story. I am not someone who doesn’t see that or understand it. I love Kashi’s role and I am really proud to be a part of this film but I’m not someone who will think that way and underplay.

Does screen time matter to you at all?

I can recall an incident actually. When I had just joined the business, someone once told me that there are no small roles, there are only small actors. I love the parts that I do and I take immense pride in whatever work I take up because people look forward to watching us on screen and we are in an extremely privileged position. I don’t take work for granted. I am not someone who competes for attention. I never needed to. I get it anyway. (Laughs) I’m not competitive but more collaborative.

This is your third association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali but first as a director. Ranveer said you took time to adjust to his methods of filmmaking. Is it true?

Sanjay sir and I understand each other extremely well. I was overwhelmed about the costumes, shooting for the period drama where at one point, I was shooting for Bajirao Mastani, Quantico and Gangaajal at the same time. So when I first came in, that was overwhelming. Working with Sanjay sir was the easiest part in the film. He has such an acute understanding of human emotions and I am very instinctive as an actor. I am someone who comes to sets and uses my instincts to gauge what the character must be going through. Sanjay sir is exactly like that. He comes on sets, gets everything ready and explains what to do, how to do. I did not come on sets thinking how Kashi is going to be.

Bajirao Mastani is probably one of the most physically and emotionally draining film you’ve been a part of. Will you attempt to do another film in the same space soon?

I don’t think there will be any other film like Bajirao Mastani. It’s one of those movies that gets made once-in-a lifetime for an actor and I am fortunate to be a part of it. Secondly, I don’t plan my films that way. I have to emotionally resonate with the character. And only if I think I understand her 100 per cent is when I do the film. And, it can’t be something I’ve done before. Kashi for me is extremely heartbreaking. I am a 21st century modern day girl today. If my husband cheated on me, I will be out! Kashi is in the 1700s and she doesn’t have any other choice. She had to deal with it and all that is so much. It was extremely painful for her. It doesn’t happen quite often with me, but I took Kashi back home. My heart ached and I will be emotional at times thinking it was such an awful position to be in. I would never play another character like that and I don’t think there will ever be another character like that written as well.

A lot has been spoken about the clash with Dilwale. You, Ranveer and Deepika share a warm relationship with Shah Rukh. Has this affected it in any manner?

There are ample instances which prove that if two good films come together on the same day, they can work. And I’m definitely looking forward to Dilwale. I will definitely watch it. And I know that the world will also want to watch it. I think both the films will work well because both of them are good and they are in completely different genres. Let’s just give due credit to both the filmmakers. They are extremely prolific and have a great body of work behind them. There’s no comparison at all. People too should go and watch both the films. After all, it’s the holidays, guys!

The Dilwale actor goes truly dilwala for his Shanti…

Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale clashed inevitably on December 18 and as everyone had predicted, both the films are getting audience’s love. But the run up to this clash was pretty tense. A lot of rumours were doing the rounds about changing equations between Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone due to the same. It got fanned more when Deepika declared on social media, “Challenge accepted” after Dilwale and BM’s clash got confirmed. Immediately rumours were abound that SRK wasn’t happy with the actress’ statement and later, Deepika removed the post. There was also a buzz that Deepika had requested the superstar to push forward his film’s date but got only a cheeky reply from him. But yesterday Deepika’s wish for SRK and his film proved that there is no love lost between them. SRK too responded to that with an equally sweet message!

Deepika had tweeted yesterday, “I love you and miss you Shah!& loads of love to you, Rohit and the entire team of #Dilwale.” That shows perfectly the amount of love and adoration she has for the man who launched her. Their love will never be tarnished or reduced by film clashes which are bound to happen. We were only waiting to see how Shah Rukh reacts to that and when he did, we fell in love with him again! The Goa Police on Friday booked pop star Remo Fernandes on charge of verbally abusing a minor girl, who was injured by a car allegedly driven by his son on December 1. According to the first information report filed by lawyer, Aires Rodrigues, on behalf of the girl, Remo verbally abused her on December 3 in ward number 105 of the Goa Medical College in Bambolim, near here, where she was hospitalised for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.
Remo, who is currently touring Europe, was contacted on email for his comments but was yet to respond.
The FIR was filed under the Goa Children’s Act, a special legislation specifically dealing with crimes against children in Goa.
On December 1, an FIR was filed against Remo’s son Jonah at the Mapusa police station in north Goa on charge of rash driving and causing hurt.

The DDLJ magic has still not faded off…

Raj and Simran, characters of the Bollywood film ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) movie played by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol respectively, were on Friday voted as the public’s favourite on-screen romantic couple in a UK poll. The characters in the 1995 film, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, were voted as the “Greatest Film Couple” in an online poll run by the British Film Institute (BFI).

The result comes on the day of the worldwide release of ‘Dilwale‘, the latest in a number of films to reunite Khan and Kajol on the silver screen again.

“DDLJ may not be very familiar to some UK audiences, but there is no denying that the film is quite simply a worldwide phenomenon. It turned its stars into Bollywood megastars, and holds the world record for the longest continuous plays in a cinema, having being screened daily in the Maratha Mandir Cinema in Mumbai every day since its release over 20 years ago,” BFI said in a statement.

“As part of the BFI’s LOVE season, the BFI Southbank worked with Yash Raj Films to celebrate the film with a special 20th anniversary screening, complete with Bollywood dancers and a nationwide competition to find the UK’s ‘real Raj and Simran’,” it added.

The others to make the top five film couples include Jesse and Celine from ‘Before Trilogy’, Scarlett and Rhett from ‘Gone With the Wind’, Rick and Ilsa from ‘Casablanca’ and Clarence and Alabama from ‘True Romance’.

A linked poll for television couples saw Amazon Prime’s ‘Outlander’ taking the top spot for the characters of Claire and Jamie.

Kajol to begin work on the film with her husband Ajay Devgn, mid-2016…

In 2014, it was all but confirmed that Kajol would play the protagonist in husband Ajay Devgn’s next production, helmed by Ram Madhvani. Eventually, the project was dropped. Rumours of their pairing persisted, but Ajay went on to film Shivaay, his dream project while Kajol stepped into Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Now that Dilwale is set for release and Ajay too has plans firmed out for Shivaay with shooting coming to a close in April, plans have been been put into motion for the couple’s next screen outing together.

Confirms Kajol, “Yes, we have planned a film under the ADF (Ajay Devgn Ffilms) banner. We have a script in hand and are just refining it further with a couple of important things that need to be sorted.”

Ajay plans to put this new film with Kajol on floors in June. He wouldn’t be directing the film though. “We have finalised the director. We’ll soon reveal the film’s title, genre and my character’s details,” says Kajol.

It’s clear that Kajol’s marching to her own tunes. “Ajay’s thinking is different and mine is different. I think of myself from a worker perspective and would basically do what I like doing,” she says, “Fortunately, I have a financial ability to do certain films only if I want to. I would do that from script to script. I would step into a film only if I am able to justify my presence there.”

Time and again, she has been considered as someone who is very choosy about her roles, something which is visible in the fact that she has done just 30 films in a career spanning 23 years. “Well, yes, I am very picky. But then you never know, if things are exciting enough, I would do three back-to-back commercial films next,” she laughs away.

He has kept something away from Dilwale so that he can gift it to his fans and we now know what it is…

We are sure many of you have already watched Dilwale many times. Right now, you are reeling under the impact of Shah Rukh Khan‘s hotness and his sizzling chemistry with Kajol. We can totally understand its affect on you. But how many of you have noticed that the film has missed something? Those who have, bingo people! and those who haven’t, let us tell you that. The song Premika from the album is not part of the film and there is a reason behind that. We were the first ones to tell you that Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon shot a Christmas song for Dilwale in Hyderabad which is Premika. And since it celebrates Christmas, the song has been kept as a special gift for his fans to be revealed next week, probably!

Yes, you read right! Shah Rukh Khan had kept this festive song away from you so that he can turn into a Santa and give this gift to you on Christmas. In all probability, the song will be released next week. We told you before that Farah Khan has choreographed this song in Hyderabad after doing a superb job on Gerua from the same film in Iceland. It’s a song you will definitely love because from what we have heard, it is really peppy. Now, we don’t know if the song will get added to the film later or not, but it will definitely be the energetic foot tapping number we are looking forward to for the New Year’s Eve.

Akshay Kumar in Enthiran 2

After names such as Vikram, Amitabh Bachchan, Mohanlal, Neil Nitin Mukesh and even…hold your breath…Arnold Schwarzenegger were thrown in to play the baddie in Rajinikanth’s sequel to Enthiran, the makers have finally sprung a surprise on us. They have cast Akshay Kumar to play the troublemaker in Chitti’s life, as Enthiran 2.0 is ready to roll. Akshay Kumar has played baddie in quite a few films like Ajnabee, Aflatoon, Tasveer 8X10 etc. but this will be the first time he will be doing a South film. Amy Jackson has also be roped in to play the heroine. Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson…hmmm…our interest in the sequel has just been piqued!

Neerja Bhanot and Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 trailers

For the second time in the last couple of weeks, we saw Tusshar Kapoor displaying his crotch section in two different films. If you thought Mastizaade trailer was shocking, bet you haven’t watched Kyaa Kool Hai Hum 3 trailer, that promotes itself to be the first porn-com film. It also stars Aftab Shivdasani, and Bigg Boss 9 inmates Mandana Karimi and Gizele Thakral. On the other hand, there is the biopic, Neerja, based on the brave airhostess Neerja Bhanot who lost her life saving the lives of many other during the infamous plane hijacking of PanAm in 1986. Sonam Kapoor is playing the lead role, while the other cast includes Shekhar Ravjiani and Shabana Azmi. The trailer looked really interesting and promising, and we are glad Bollywood is finally opening up to make strong female-driven films, unlike just viewing them as sex objects!

Eros takes single screen owners to court

Bajirao Mastani – Dilwale clash took an ugly turn when Eros tried to block single screen owners from giving more shows to the Shah Rukh Khan film, base don an earlier agreement. The owners were hesitant, so the matter went to court where Eros unsuccessfully appealed for an injunction against the theatre owners. On the day prior to the release, the court ruled in the favour of the theatre owners and they are now free to allot as much show they want to Dilwale.

Dhoom 4 logo released?

Yashraj studios are known to sprung a surprise now and then. Two days before, out of the blue, they released the logo of Dhoom Reloaded on Twitter. No other details were revealed about the film, or whatever it is, leaving everything to speculations. While most of the people thought this might be the title for the new film in the Dhoom franchise, we think it has more to do with the web series that Anand Tewari was referring to at the end of Bang Bajaa Baaraat!

Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale’s opening act!

After weeks of tu tu main main and heavy promotions, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic romance Bajirao Mastani and Rohit Shetty’s masala entertainer Dilwale released this Friday. BM, that stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, got better reviews, especially for the performances of the cast as well as the production detailing. Dilwale, starring SRK, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kajol and Kriti Sanon, got a better buzz at the box office. Now it remains to be seen who will emerge the bigger victor!

Post his father’s 60th birthday bash, Sid Mallya talks about his dad, debut film and how he almost worked with Priyanka Chopra…

He’s all of 28 and raring to go. Sid Mallya, often known for being Vijay Mallya’s son and heir to the Kingfisher business, has finally found his vocation. A few years ago, the suave youngster packed his bags and moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Sid (aka Siddhartha) was determined to create an identity of his own. Currently a student of The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama in London, he has come a long way. Although he’s still completing his course, he’s all set to make his film debut with Brahman Naman, a British movie that will premiere as part of the World Cinema dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival early next year. In a candid chat, Sid tells After Hrs about his acting ambitions, being a Mallya and what the future holds.

Debut dreams

Sid is making his on-screen debut with Brahman Naman, an international film directed by Kolkata-based filmmaker Q. “Ironically it was shot in Bengaluru even though it was a British film, which in a way was kind of nice given my family history in the city. It’s directed by Q and produced by a guy called Steve Barron, who was a very big music video director back in the day, who did the video Take On Me for AHA, Billie Jean, tons of Duran Duran stuff. It was just nice to work with him and Q, because Q’s very artistic and he doesn’t seem to worry about what’s acceptable and what’s not — he just does things. And that’s why it was lots of fun to work on this film. It’s not the biggest role in the film — it’s a supporting lead — but it’s big enough,” says Sid. Delving further into the character he plays, he says, “I am the main antagonist lead. It’s all set in college, Bangalore University. He’s sort of the jock character, gets all the girls and they’re sort of the geeks so that’s where the rivalry comes in. I could definitely relate to bits of it…”

An Indian in Hollywood

What many don’t know is that Sid had also auditioned for a number of ABC shows including Quantico, which has grabbed much headlines for Priyanka Chopra’s leading role. “Like most actors in America I auditioned for a lot of ABC’s pilots, one of them was Quantico and a number of other shows which either did or didn’t get picked up or got cancelled along the way. But that was just in the audition process. Priyanka Chopra is doing really well. That’s all credit to her for sticking through and getting to where she is. I haven’t seen Quantico yet because we don’t get it in the UK. I believe she’s doing a great job and it’s testament to her character and to her work ethic,” he adds. While there are some Indian actors who have managed to make a mark abroad, is Sid concerned about being typecast? “Funnily enough I’m not stereotypically viewed as Indian. They don’t look at me and think I look Indian. In fact, I get more South American than anything else. And I think I’m in a fortunate position because I have that ethnically ambiguous look where I could play Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, South American, Mexican, Egyptian so there’s a lot more — in fact the last thing I think I’ll be able to play is Indian. Because if they want someone, they want someone who looks traditionally Indian, now my mannerisms and all aren’t traditionally Indian so I think I’m okay in terms of typecast. In acting school, funnily enough, they’ve told me I do need to work on softening my accent a little because I have a very thick, cut, crisp British accent that could also limit some of the things I do,” admits Sid. “Apart from Priyanka and to an extent Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) there hasn’t really been an Indian actress who’s made it big there. There have been more actors — Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan — who have done projects as opposed to the actresses. Therefore logic would tell you it’s easy for the actor. I guess for girls, everyone likes a good-looking face but if you’re not talented it doesn’t matter how good-looking you are. So I wouldn’t say it’s easy for them. Perhaps there are more opportunities for them…”

Taking baby steps

Sid says that since he’s still in school, he’s not in any rush to sign more films. “I’m still in drama school, that’s my focus. I have just completed the first semester so I’ve got till next September. It’s a full 360 degree approach to it. There’s performance, voice, movement, dance, text analysis because the whole thing is how to act through the body. They’ve literally taught me how to re-sit, how to talk, how to walk, breathe because they think everything is connected. If you don’t breathe from the right place in the diaphragm then you tighten everything in the chest. If you don’t stand properly on your feet, you tighten everything in the hips. If you tighten your hips, you tighten your breath, if you tighten your breath you tighten your neck and then emotion doesn’t flow. So it’s a full round thing. We did the waltz, meringue, jive and tango. It’s a nice holistic approach,” he says.

And if Bollywood were to come calling, would Sid take the opportunity? “No, I’m not interested in Bollywood. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it either. The sensibilities are very different, and I don’t think I have the sensibilities to make it in Bollywood. I don’t speak Hindi so my options are rather limited,” says Sid who admits he hasn’t been keeping track of the latest releases either.

Family matters

Sid, who is currently on a Christmas break from school, flew down to celebrate his father Vijay Mallya’s milestone 60th birthday. The bash in Goa, which lasted for a couple of days, was said to be a lavish affair. However, Sid didn’t come with a gift for his dad. Commenting on what he’s learnt from his Pa, Sid says, “One thing he does really well which perhaps I don’t do as well — he’s quite easy to switch off what other people think. And criticisms or whatever, he’s quite easy to switch away and live his own life whereas I read into things a lot more… You got to love what you do! That’s what he does. He can sit in the office till 5 am because he loves what he does and I didn’t love what I was doing that’s why I left to pursue this different career of mine. I think I’ve found my calling.” Sid does, however, reveal that he finds it easier living in the West, as here he is under constant scrutiny. “I wish people would judge me for who I was as opposed to someone’s son. But I guess being in India that’s something I’m never going to be able to shrug. Therefore in the West I’ve got that opportunity to be my own person a little bit more. It’s always nice.”

From the heart

His personal life has made waves especially a couple of years back when he dated Deepika Padukone. While there have been a couple of link-ups since then, Sid has managed to keep the media glare away. “Yes, there is someone. I’m not going to give names purely because it’s not fair on that person. Then people start prying and hassling that someone. She studies as well. I’m quite happy about my personal life so long as it doesn’t affect someone else. I know if I start giving you names then I’m putting their personal life at risk. As for me, I’m like an open book!” he says. Quiz him if he’s still in touch with Deepika and he says, “Yeah I mean I am in touch with Deepika, like I’m in touch with anyone. I couldn’t be happier for her. It’s great that she’s so successful and long may her continue. I don’t know anything about her Hollywood ventures but I’m sure she will be as great in Hollywood as she’s been here. Best of luck to her!”

Looking ahead

What does the new year hold for Sid? “Hopefully, more of the same. I’m happy that things have started to progress in this career that I’ve chosen. 2014 was a stepping stone, 2015 has gone one higher and hopefully 2016 I can continue on that upward trajectory. There are amazing directors and big people that you always want to work with. But I’m happy to take whatever I can. I just want to continue making good stuff and continuing to grow and continuing to learn. That’s my main goal. This is where my heart is!”
