Sonam has been a part of Bollywood for quite sometime now. She has done a string of bad movies with an occasional good one thrown in between. And of the most crucial years in her career was 2013, when she did Ranjhana and Bhaag Milka Bhaag. The latter movie was the first time Sonam featured in a biopic and with Neerja coming soon, it is interesting to hear her opinion on such movies.

After “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, Sonam Kapoor has worked in another biopic “Neerja”. The actress says she feels honoured to be a part of films based on the “lives of Indian heroes”. Sonam played the love interest of Farhan Akhtar in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s 2013 film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, which is inspired by the real life story of Indian athlete Milkha Singh.

And now she is essaying the titular role in “Neerja”, a biopic on Neerja Bhanot, a valiant Indian flight attendant who lost her own life but saved the lives of passengers during a hijacking.

“It is an honour to be a part of both these biopics which are based on the lives of Indian heroes. Ironically, both ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘Neerja’ are based on personalities from Chandigarh,” Sonam said in a statement.

The Ram Madhvani-directorial features Sonam as Neerja, a Pan Am chief purser who was gunned down by terrorists when Flight 73 was hijacked in Karachi in 1986. She saved a number of lives but lost her own.

The film is set to release on February 19.

The Queen star will play a crucial action packed role

Actress Kangana Ranaut says that Julia, the character she plays in “Rangoon“, is extremely fierce and fiery while also being a great dancer and a great action star.

“In ‘Rangoon’, I play an action star of the 1940s. And Julia is a woman who is very fierce, very fiery, she’s a great dancer and a great action star,” said Kangana present at the unveiling of the Sephora store on Saturday.

A picture of Kangana with a whip in her hand from the sets was captured recently, which had people think that she would indulge in some action for the film. She was also snapped while she was learning horse-riding for the film and had confessed that the preparations for the film had left her physically exhausted.

Kangana, who is famous for her curly hair right since her debut “Gangster”, is currently sporting straight and short hair. She confirmed that it was her look for the film and not her own style.

“For the film, I have this look.. it’s not styled like that. It’s more vintagy, more wavy which you’ll get to see in the film,” she said.

The Vishal Bhardwaj-directed ‘Rangoon’ also stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Shahid plays a soldier in the film while Saif enacts the role of a filmmaker. Reportedly, the film is along the lines of the Hollywood classic “Casablanca” and is set during the World War II period.

Frankly, for the first time when I heard Arjun Kapoor will be debuting as the host of Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, I was pretty unsure if he’ll be able to pull it off or no. Although I agree he is witty and has taken the centre stage at several award shows in the past. But considering KKK is all about action and has had hosts like Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty, it’s really important to continue the legacy with someone who is equally fearless and has that fire in him to lead this season.  Now that way, it was quite a gamble for Arjun to take up something so challenging. But boy, what a surprise! With action on one side, Arjun made sure he gives us an all new filmy experience with a blend of action, romance, comedy and a house full of entertainment. What’s good

I liked the way how we were introduced to this new season. It started off with Bollywood celebs- Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan underestimating Arjun’s hosting skills through an audio visual. They basically pretended to be under the same impression as us so that we relate better. Quite a thoughtful way to begin. Following which, we were then introduced to the stunning contestants of this season in a total filmy andaaz. While Tanisha Mukherji recreated sister Kajol’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. Vivan Bhatena made a drool-worthy entry like one of the Bollywood young guns, flaunting his chiselled abs. Now such aspects only add on to the excitement level. Similarly, even the tasks were pretty good and got us on the edge of our seats. But the highlight had to be Arjun who made sure he keeps us entertained with his funny jokes and that youthful vibe. He didn’t pretend to be Akshay or Rohit. He was just being himself, out there to have fun, flirt around, motivate the contestants and keep us entertained. PS: He even performed a couple of tasks despite being labelled as ‘fattu’ by his B-town buddies. Ab isse kehte hai Khatron Ke Khiladi…

What’s not

The tasks gave us a slight dejavu feeling. Considering Arjun is on board, they could have made the format more filmy. In the sense, the tasks could have had some twists, maybe like a film scene or at least name it after a film’s scene. Or a stunt named after a celeb. Now that would have been more interesting, no? Also, a few jokes were a little forced and failed to tickle our funny bones. Be funny but not so funny that you end up feeling constipated.

Final verdict

All in all, I enjoyed this first episode. It’s a treat for Arjun fans and we have to credit him for being SO easy going as a host. As a first timer, way to go by! And now we can safely say that, we can’t wait to watch the remaining episodes of this season. Bring it on!

We were all excited when a hit (well, hit is an understatement) international band Coldplay chose to make a song on India and also roped in our very own Sonam Kapoor to star in the video with Beyonce herself! But what we got to see was a complete disappointment. One look at the video and I thought that it suffers from a bad, bad hangover from Slumdog Millionaire.

Firstly, Coldplay I did not expect that you would play to the mindless western stereotype about India. Naked street kids playing holi, Kathakali dancers performing in goddamn Dharavi and those bizarre flowery head gears on Beyonce’s head, her heena painted hands and don’t even get me started on Sonam Kapoor’s blink-and-miss appearance, are enough to make any self respecting Indian cringe.

Sonam appears in the last 10 seconds of the video running in a ghaghra with her lustrous hair flowing with a big pin in her nose to boot! Well, is this ‘the cool story’ for your grand kids Sonam? Then what about those cutting edge fashion statements you have made over the years dressed in the best international labels, strutting your Christian Louboutins in the most prestigious international fashion dos? Isn’t that more cool than this?

Well, when will the West understand that the women in India DO NOT paint their hands with henna all the time and do not wear giant nose pins and a bouquet of flowers on our head every time they step out. They dress as ‘normally’ just like you guys.

Also, Beyonce is a Bollywood actress in the video and is named ‘Rani’. Oh so typical! Beyonce, Bollywood heroines of today look and act nothing like your Rani. Want an example? Look at Priyanka Chopra, your Times Square was flooded with the visuals of her hit show Quantico until recently. Our actresses are sure Indian, but they have a rich global appeal which you guys will always choose to ignore. Even the last time an Indian heroine played Rani (Kangana Ranaut in Queen) she was nothing that screamed STEREOTYPE! Actually, The west has graduated to projecting us the snakes have been replaced by unkempt sadhus and the bullocks by fancy colourful cabs!

I think, the westerners will never ever get over their Dharavi obsession! Thank you, Slumdog! Oh, and there is even a young boy dressed as Shiva in the video. In one shot, Chris croons against the backdrop of a temple with saffron flags! Narendra Modi ji and his party must be very happy looking at this! But, India is a secular country which has as much as churches, mosques and synagogues as temples. Why is it still shown as an out-an-out Hindu rashtra? Yeah, RSS a treat for you, this video.

It’s like Chris and Beyonce sat with a list of cliches associated with the ‘poor country with rich people’ and ticked off each one for their precious video. Yeah you find sadhus smoking ganja and taking a dip in a pool of dirty, stagnant water too. Also, I have a personal question to Chris Martin. Remember how we went gaga when we saw him in an upscale Delhi travellers’ pub last year? Well, so he does know that the new age India looks like. Then why was he hell bent on playing up to the stereotype? ​

Bands like Coldplay are bloody huge and people across the world follow them. They have just reinforced a cliched image of India in the minds of people across the globe. So not cool.

This is a message to all Westerners who attempt to showcase the great Indian culture (without wanting to appropriate it), please do not forget that the Indian genuineness of the Silicon Valley have made your country what it is. Thank you very much. And yes, at this moment I just feel like showing Coldplay this video from Akshay Kumar’s Namastey London….

The Color’s show Comedy Nights Bachao has been quite popular over the past few months. Many stars like Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have appeared on the show and they all get their legs pulled mercilessly by the comedians. And this episode of the rib tickling show also had a very special guest.

Tonight on Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh’s show, the new Khatron Ke Khiladi star host Arjun Kapoor made an appearance to promote the latest season of his daredevil reality show. He was accompanied by four contestant, Mahi Vij, Tanisha Mukherjee, Aishwarya Sakhuja and Sana Saeed. The actor was looking quite dapper in black coat and grey pants sporting a dog tag. The show began with a bang as Arjun was asked to do a dangerous bike stunt. Then the whole ensemble reached the studio and the roasting of the Gunday actor begun. Comedian Bharti called out Arjun on his family influence and created  a laughter riot.

Even the ladies are not spared. Abhishek took several delightfully funny digs on Mahi Vij’s lack of height. Arjun Kapoor rocked the show with his dance moves to tunes of KKK, Locha E Ulfat and many others. The comedians took turns mocking the KKK team, the show itself and even each other. Since Arjun is hosting a stunt based show, he was asked to a task of finding an object in a block of ice which he completed like a champ.

This episode of Comedy Night’s Bachao was surely funny as hell and Arjun Kapoor shined as he took everything sportingly and even gave a few epic comebacks.

Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor gained super stardom with the success of Aashiqui 2. Reportedly, the two were even seeing each other for the longest time, before calling it quits due to mutual differences. However, moving over time, turns out things have finally healed between the two, as they are gearing up to reunite with the remake of Mani Ratnam’s popular film ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ directed by Shaad Ali. The film will be produced by B Town’s most favorite director and producer Karan Johar.

So considering Aditya had a past with Shraddha, the reporters quizzed him about their current equation and how excited he is to work with Shraddha and he said, “I am very excited, I think it’s a great subject for both us and great story for us to come back together. It’s a different space altogether from Aashiqui which is good so that we are able to kind of explore another side in terms of relationship. It was great working with her in Aashiqui and I am looking forward for this one too. I am very excited for the shooting; we will start shooting in Mumbai from March”, concludes Aditya.

The buzz around Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s break up doesn’t seem to die down any time soon. People want to know every little thing about the estranged couple right from where they are staying right now to when was the last time they met. More so, because neither of the two have even announced their break-up as yet, although Katrina is still doing her little bit by reacting to the rumours at Fitoor promotions. However, wait until you hear her latest reaction on being asked if Ranbir and she have actually moved out of their Bandra love nest or no.

So this reporter tried acting smart by putting the same question differently, to get a clarification on their break-up. And there she was. Like a boss, Katrina took that question and said, “Have I moved out of the house? I guess you should try these cookies. They are tasty!” Such a smart ass! This is exactly how Katrina has been conducting herself through all her media interactions post break-up.

Shah Rukh Khan who is busy completing his upcoming films Raees and Fan is apparently keen on doing a film with Anand L Rai. This certain film with the Tanu Weds Manu director has already created too many speculations on the internet. However there was no confirmation from the actor or the director on the same. Looks like all the rumors are turning out to be slightly true as SRK just spilled the beans about the film. Yes!

During a live video chat with fans, the actor hinted that he is considering doing a film with the Raanjhanaa director. One of the fan quizzed Khan, whether he is taking up the director’s film, is when he said, “We have almost done a final discussion, Aanand is a very good friend and I am in talks with him since long, hopefully we’ll have one film”.

Apart from the male lead, many names have been tossed around the female consideration for the film. Reportedly Rai is considering Deepika Padukone for the lead, though nothing has been finalized yet.

The Raanjhanaa actress posted a video on Instragram to encourage fans

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who is prepping for her upcoming film “Neerja”, is campaigning against fear on social media platforms. The “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” actress uploaded a less than a minute video on Instagram, where she urged her fans and followers to share a clip of themselves talking about their fears and how they overcame it.

“Hi everybody, I have a request, I want you to talk about your fear and how you overcame it. Neerja’s fear gave her courage. The best videos you put out I will post. It will give other people courage to face their fears,” Sonam said in the video.

She captioned the video: “Hi everyone. I often wonder how fear gave Neerja courage. I would love to hear your stories in 15 second Instagram videos.”

Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam’s relationship has been in the limelight since quite some time. Actor Nana Patekar and Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma will inaugurate the 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav theatre festival on Monday at the Kamani Auditorium here. The ceremony will be followed by the performance of “Macbeth” in Manipuri by Chorus Repertory Theatre, which is directed by theatre personality Ratan Thiyam. The best of plays from around the world will be part of this international festival, which promises to be bigger and better than the previous editions. To be held between February 1 to 21, the 18th Bharat Rang Mahotsav will be held across leading venues here.

Bharat Rang Mahotsav promises to be bigger and better than ever with theatre groups from over 10 countries including USA, Australia, Italy, Sri Lanka, Poland, Bangladesh, Spain, China, Pakistan, Austria. Some of the finest names in the theatre world from India and abroad are set to be part of the festival. The biggest theatre groups from almost all the states of India will also travel to showcase their talent at the festival.

The versatile actor spoke on freedom, politics, ideals and Chennai floods

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan has revealed that he “has never had” his freedom while making films.

“No Indian filmmaker has had full freedom of speech as compared to the rest of the world. Hence, I must complain I’ve never had my freedom, I’m yet to see my full freedom,” Kamal said on India Today TV channel as part of the Twitter Town Hall.

“Time divides freedom and anarchy. Freedom should come with ‘Lakshman Rekha’. Freedom will be constant. Freedom is like your body; you have to feed it, guard it and take care of it,” he added.

Kamal, who has been a prominent member of the entertainment industry for over five decades now, had on January 28 asked his fans in a video to send him questions on Twitter regarding freedom.

“Keep vigil on something we believe in. It could be dying. Send questions #SpeakOnFreedom @IndiaToday #Twitter #Townhall,” Kamal, who joined the micro-blogging site on January 26, captioned the video.

Sharing his views on the much-hyped protests by students of the premier Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) against the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as chairman, Kamal said: “FTII students are trend-setters; some of them have been pride of India. Government should have appointed an empathetic person”.

Asked about the reason behind him joining Twitter, Kamal said: “Mahatma Gandhi influenced me to be on social media. You can’t fear criticism or not talk at all. He was the man who rose up to speak in times when it was dangerous to speak.”

“Gandhi-ji is a great hero and I wish we had many more of him. It needs lot of will, courage to be what he is. He is an inimitable model.”

Speaking on critics, Kamal said that they “should be more tolerant”. “Criticism should be constructive and not destructive,” he added. Kamal also took the initiative to talk about the Chennai floods.

He said: “I wish Chennai attracts international attention without flood. We can do it, we have done it. Pick up any Tamil or state newspaper, it does not talk about the news from the rest of the country, very important news is sometimes left out.”

The seventh season of thrilling reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi got underway yesterday. So it comes as a huge shock when an elimination takes place in the very second episode of the show. And the unlucky contestant was none other than Himanhsu Malhotra from the Red team. The TV actor failed to do three successive tasks and as a result the inevitable happened. This episode of Khatron Ke Khiladi had some pretty hard and death defying stunts. The first stunt was called Hawai pole dance, where the contestants had to hold on to a hovering helicopter and tear off poles from the it without any support. Sana Saeed and Parvathi were chosen from the two teams to carry out the task where Sana gained a upper hand. But all was not well for Tanisha’s team, as a surprising game changing stunt was decided. The stunt went South for the Red team and the Blue team gained the upper hand. As a result, her team was forced to have an elimination. Four contestants were thrown in the unsafe elimination zone, Vivaan, Himanshu, Siddharth and Tiina. The three lads decided to save Tiina from certain elimination. As a result Himmanshoo and Vivaan have to perform an extremely scary stunt involving two trucks and a narrow ledge where only one will survive and the other will be have to pack his bags. Himmanshoo Malhotra was discovered when he was chosen to participate in Zee Cine Stars ki Khoj. The first elimination in such a starting stage makes this season very very interesting.

The television and cinema actor was fondly known as Kollam meaning good or great

The Malayalam film industry or Mollywood as it is called has had many great actors over the years. Veteran actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dileep and many other giants have entertained and spellbound the audiences for many years. But one of the earliest great actors in Mollywood was G Krishna Pillai. He was born way back in 1924 and has been an integral and very crucial part of cinema since the last 58 years. And it is really to see Mollywood such a gem.

Veteran cinema-television actor G Krishna Pillai has died. Pillai (82) was undergoing treatment for age-related illness and died at his house near here last night, family sources said.

A theatre-turned cinema-television actor, Pillai is known for his character and comedy roles in dramas, movies and TV serials. Popularly known as Kollam G K Pillai, he began his acting career through theatre.

He had been active in theatre since 1960s and enacted a handful of memorable roles in noted dramas of that time including “Neetipeedham”, “Kunjali Maraykkar” and “Ezharaponnana”.

Pillai stepped into tinsel world by donning a role in 1965 movie “Masappady Mathupillai”. He had acted in over 70 films including “Chula”, “My Dear Kuttichathan”, “Mucheettu Kalikkarente Makal” and so on. Pillai also appeared in some television serials also in the later years of his acting career. He leaves his wife and four daughters.

The first episode was really dull and lackluster. Here’s why….

When the promos of the premiere episode of Comedy Nights Live first came out, what shocked a lot of people was the way in which they  were openly insulting the previous star of the show, that is Kapil Sharma. It is well known that famous comedian Kapil Sharma had a huge fallout with the Colors network regarding some financial reasons. As a result, the scorned TV channel is perhaps taking out their frustration on the ex-comedy nights star. Krushna has of course denied any animosity with Kapil and that he is just following a script . So lets take a look at the first episode of the comedy show that was born out of conflict and controversy….

What happened:

The pilot episode had singer Mika Singh replacing the position of Navjot Singh Siddhu from Comedy Nights With Kapil. Famous Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene was the first guest on the new Comedy Nights Live which is mainly run by three comedians- Krushna Abhishek, Bharti Singh and Sudesh Lehri. The setting of the show is exactly the same and it has not deviated much from its previous format. A tribute video on Madhuri’s famous Ek Do Teen song was also aired for a few seconds. Krushna, Bharti and Madhuri danced to the tunes of Devdas which featured the actress. Following which towards the end, there was this usual question and answer session with the live audience.

What’s hot:

The best part of the show was the setting and format remained more or less the same. With a permanent guest star taking his place among the audience and a new guest star appearing every episode, just like Kapil’s show. Madhuri was a good sport throughout the episode and danced to several numbers from her old movies which made the audience nostalgic. As far as comedy was concerned, it was Bharti Singh who rocked the show and NOT Krushna Abhishek. Bharti took on a boyish character today and gave us some decent laughs. It was truly endearing to see her calling herself as the son of Bitoo Sharma, which was the name of Kapil Sharma on the show. Mika entertained us with a song in the beginning and end of the episode.

What’s not:

If you were feeling bad about Kapil leaving before, then wait till you watch Comedy Nights Live. The absence of the famous comedian was felt acutely throughout the episode as very few jokes managed to elicit a laugh. Krushna Abhishek and his team seemed to be trying too desperately to live up to CNWK, but sadly they failed. The jokes centered around Kapil were not in very good taste, although Bharti was seen praising and defending the man. Not only it looked like a very watered down version of CNWK, but it also was very similar to Comedy Nights Bachao, with the comedians roasting one another, the guest and the TV channel itself. While Comedy Nights Bachao is surely funny, Krushna and co must try to not imitate its contents in Comedy Nights Live, as it made the show pretty dull.

What to do:

Do watch the show for its amusing moments in between, but don’t watch with high expectations. It feels like Kapil has spoiled us all with his inimitable comic timing and his influence from the show cannot really be removed.

It’s time to take some hotness tips from this diva! When she initially made her Bollywood debut, people couldn’t get over her lips. Yes, that’s how the fame circuit started for this damsel. Apart from her sharp looks and features, Nargis was especially known for her lips. But luckily, it worked out quite well for her! Ever since then, Nargis has been the hot quotient of Bollywood. The Rockstar actress has been an ardent fitness freak and we all know why! I mean look at her body! Recently when she clicked some selfies with Dishoom co-star Varun Dhawan, she looked drop dead gorgeous. They may have been goofing around but they sure gave us some serious gym goals.

And now as she lays her on the cover of Hello! magazine in a sensuous poise and splashing the screen with red, I just sit back and gape in bewilderment. Just cannot fathom the fact that she’s above 35 years old because lady, you look too young. Donning a satin red Jean Paul Gautlier outfit, Nargis looks class apart. I am totally lovin’ her looks and wish to see her do more such photoshoots. Just seeing how well toned and fit her body is gives me future goals of how much I should maintain as I grow old. Did I say old? Clearly, Nargis is just ageing young! We’ll be seeing her next in Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Housefull 3, Emraan Hashmi starrer Azhar and John Abraham, Varun Dhawan starrer Dishoom!

It was the time when he wasn’t off award ceremonies…

Aamir Khan boycotting awards is something we have heard too often. Today, award ceremonies are not event worth attending and guess the superstar already had a premonition this will happen. But there was a time, when they weren’t as banal as they are today and in those times, Aamir attended them too. Yes, you read right. The Dangal actor attended an awards event in 1989, a year after his Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak became a rage. Don’t believe us? We have a video to prove our claim.

QSQT, as it was popularly known as, swept the awards night by clinching all the major awards including cinematography and music. Aamir even accepted the Best Screenplay award which he shared with Naseer Hussain. He even accepted the Best Cinematography award for the film on behalf of Kiran Deohans. But the Best Actor trophy eluded him. It went to Anil Kapoor for Tezaab. Although the video doesn’t capture his emotion for this loss well, we are sure he wasn’t too happy about it. Guess to put balm on his wounds he was awarded the Best Sensational Debut Award. He accepted the award and even said, “At last, I have got my own award.” It’s clear he was a fan of these beautiful trophies but the latter perhaps weren’t. Resultant? He stopped caring about them.

But there’s more. Do not forget to catch him performing on Papa kehte hain on stage. That man is a superstar now, with or without awards!

Ajay Devgn and Sakshi Tanwar would make a rocking pair. This is what fans feel. On Sakshi’s birthday, we conducted a poll on after Aamir Khan, which actor should Sakshi team up with next. On TV, her most iconic pairings have been with Kiran Karmarkar (Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki) and Ram Kapoor (Bade Achhe Lagte Hain). In her film debut, she is playing Aamir Khan’s wife in Dangal, which is a great break for her.

When we conducted the poll, it was Akshay Kumar who was a clear favourite at the start. People loved his jodi with Nimrat Kaur in Airlift, which was considered as an unusual pairing. It seems like fans would love to see Akshay and Sakshi as well in a film.

At the start, Ajay Devgn was in second place; however, he slowly inched to the top slot. It is not surprising as they have a lot of similarities. Both Sakshi and Ajay are intense actors and have a certain earthiness about them. A mature love story could be the ideal script for them.

It was Nawazuddin Siddiqui who took the third spot. The actor is managing to strike a fine balance between meaningful and commercial cinema and is fine with working with any actress. Sakshi and he would look great in a thriller or rom-com…do you agree?

Katrina Kaif has been in the news a lot recently. Yes, her break up with Ranbir Kapoor was a huge reason for the same, but apart from that she also is seen promoting her next flick Fitoor with Aditya Roy Kapur and is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the film gets publicity. We are really excited to see her hot chemistry with Aditya and we love,love,love her current appearances. She steps out looking like a goddess, every time!

Well as known to us, Katrina made her foray into the film industry with a 2003 flick Boom which bombed badly at the box office. She was seen as a super model in this very forgettable movie. The very thought of which must make Kat and her fans cringe at this moment, we can imagine. Yeah, it was bad.

But hold on, this was certainly not her first screen appearance. Do you know, Kat was a part of a very hit cola commercial in South India? Yeah, she rocked the Coca Cola advertisement with superstar Vijay even before entering the film industry! Cool, isn’t? She is seen dancing in a red dress, looking much her much younger self. She still has a bit of baby fat here, but she looks totally stunning.
