Speaking with Arjun Kapoor is never time wasted. One always comes away with hope. He seems to understand and comprehend what works and what are the failings of cinema in Bollywood, in its current avatar. Also, as a star kid — dad Boney is a known producer and uncle Anil and Sanjay actors — he is intricately aware, despite being only a few films old — why certain films work here and others don’t. As an insider and industry watcher, he has a unique perspective on why Hollywood regularly outperforms us, what we need to fight back and how we ought to create homegrown superheroes and internationally acclaimed animation films. Here’s what he had to say on a variety of topics…

On Hollywood outperforming us

“Along with us, the South East Asian film industries are also doing fairly well, so we aren’t the ‘last surviving industry’. Their films, content-wise, production-wise, and even recovery-wise have become pretty decent. Take for example, The Jungle Book, which did great business globally, including in India. It’s an Indian story with Indian characters. The dubbed version of the film did better business here than the English one. We have to take the hint that audiences are watching films like these in Hindi. The English film-viewing market has eaten into our business because our content is not good enough. If we provide great content on the same day, even our films would do well. There is food for thought that we have to pull up our socks.”

Audience ka signal

“The audience is giving us a signal… ‘ki yaar, tum log kuch banaoge jo hum logo ne nahi dekha, toh hum aake dekhenge theatre mein’. It’s just the way you look at it. I completely understand that the thought of Hollywood taking over Bollywood has come up, but they can never do it, because we consume films in Hindi. English films dubbed in Hindi do well. Almost 60 per cent of their collections in India come from the Hindi version. What people don’t realise here is for every Jungle Book and Fast & Furious film, there are 20-30 other films, which are dubbed and they still don’t do well here. Even they have flops, it comes to India. Here, certain kind of films do well like action so there’s F&F which has become a franchise everyone’s looking forward to. People love such films. Vin Diesel is the typical Hindi film hero in that sense.”

On the absence of superheroes in B-Town

“Hollywood makes superhero films. We don’t make as many of them here. Indians love mythology and their superhero films are like mythologies. They have a backstory, they have a journey, they have a reason for becoming who they have become. There’s an added element of kids liking it. So overall, it’s a deep-rooted thought about content more than anything else. We have to be aware and we should learn from it rather than get scared of it.”

On lack of good animation flicks

“We do not make great animated films. We don’t even try much, I feel. We cannot imagine a budget that they have. But never say never. Also, we have never had that one film that made people wake up and notice. We never had a genre-breaking film. The day that happens, things will change drastically. Budget is, of course, a reason. But then, people think that ‘Arre, it will take around three years to make an animated film. Let’s just make a live film’. In India, it’s more about speed, people don’t want to wait that long to complete any project. In the special effects studios we have, there are a lot of American elements that are sublet into the Indian VFX agencies that are doing great work. But also there needs to be a director with a foresight and the passion to make an animated film. With Baahubali doing so well, it changed the thought process about period films. You need an animation film to pull off what Baahubali did — to cut through all language barriers, audiences — and then you feel okay, we can afford to do it The moment that happens, we will see a lot more animated films.”

Quite an unusual clash, this! Come July 2017, Saif Ali Khan’s Chef goes up against Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena — The Queen of Mumbai the same Friday.

A trade insider shares, “Haseenawas announced first. However, with Chef’s release date being announced, it means that the two films will take each other on July 14, 2017.”

However, Chef has been on floors for a while and the film’s shoot is expected to wrap soon. Shooting for Haseena, however, has just begun.

Saif had no option but to release Chef in July, given he has two films lined up in the first half of the year — Rangoon (February 24 and Kaalakandi(April 21). “His third film had to be spaced out accordingly. July seemed reasonable,” shares the source.

Haseena, a solo outing for Shraddha will find a tough competitor in Saif-starrer Chef. But, insists an exhibitor, “The two films are quite different from each other, so it should not be much of a worry for either actor. Chef will target the multiplexes. The title itself has an elitist feel to it. On the other hand, Haseena has Shraddha Kapoor playing Dawood Ibrahim’s sister. The title, theme and treatment are expected to cater primarily to single-screen audiences.”

Chef is being helmed by Raja Menon, whose last film was Akshay Kumar superhit, Airlift. Haseena sees Apoorva Lakhia in the director’s chair, making a comeback of sorts after 2013’s disastrous Zanjeer.

“None of that matters though when the promo of your film does well. Once the promo arrives, it would decide how the two films will find their audience,” the trade insider adds.

Why so sad Bebo? Unlike all the recent appearances where Kareena Kapoor Khan flaunted her baby bump looking as cheerful as ever, yesterday seemed to be a little off for the mommy-to-be was in no mood to pose for the papz. Yes, Wearing a yellow maxi gown, Kareena was spotted arriving at bestie Amrita Arora’s house for an intimate bash along with Malaika Arora Khan. But it was surprising how she didn’t even bother to look at the cameras flashing by. I mean, we remember how even when Kareena was spotted having a phone conversation below her building, she made sure she acknowledges the reporters for a sec at least, if not for a whole reel of pictures. Or say for that instance, even when she was snapped leaving a salon a few months back. But guess we need to understand that now that she’s in her last month of pregnancy, there will be days when you will not spot Kareena being ever-ready to pose for pictures. But of course, that doesn’t mean Kareena is going to stop making appearances just because she’s nearing her due for delivery. While she shot for a heavenly maternity shoot recently. She even confessed how she’s loving the tag of being the ‘busy bee’ as she said, “I’ve been keeping myself so busy during this pregnancy that Saif always says ‘You’ll have this baby in Mehboob Studios!’ My friends are constantly teasing me and telling me to calm down and do less. But knowing me, don’t be surprised if I head straight from the hospital to a shoot. I think I’ll definitely be fully back at work one month after my baby is born.”

We’ll never get tired of seeing exes in Bollywood speak heartwarming things for each other, right? In fact, we’ll never get over some of the best ex jodis of Bollywood. Among them are Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Post their breakup, the duo never teamed up. However, the year 2016 is surely one big roller coaster for not only did Sasha and Bebo make a movie together (Udta Punjab) but have also started a family! Well, technically Kareena is still due next month while Shahid just became a proud father of a baby girl. Of course, the past was burnt to ashes as the ex-couple have now become super cordial and are in very good terms. Isn’t that heartwarming? However, what’s more heartwarming is that they’re talking about babies and parenthood!

For quite a while, Shahid stayed away from Bebo and vice versa. No anymore guys! They’re super amicable and are sharing tips on babies and parenthood. At a recent event, the duo even bumped into each other and they had a pretty good conversation. Kapoor told a leading entertainment daily, “Yes, I did bump into her and it was heartwarming to see her fully pregnant, because I’ve just been through (that experience of) having a baby. I felt happy for her. I asked her when she was due, and she told me it is sometime next month. She also asked about Misha. So it was very nice.” Isn’t that super cute? Sort of like a Hindi movie moment where the babies erase the sourness of a relationship. Okay, that was a little lame but bottom line being, it’s super cute.

As we know pretty well, Shahid’s baby was born in August while Kareena’s baby is due in December. Sure, we’re still unaware of the dates but if calculations are to be believed then perhaps first or second week of December should be her due date. For the same, Bebo is prepping up superbly. The 36 year old actress was recently spotted shopping for her unborn baby. While we’re yet again clueless about the sex of the baby, we’re just as excited as we were during Mira’s pregnancy. If you notice, even in her eighth month, Bebo is going out, not caring a damn about the fact that she is pregnant and doing things normally. Quite the trendsetter, this one!

Gurmeet Choudhary, who rose to fame with his earnest portrayal of Lord Ram in the popular television serial, Ramayan, seems to be in no mood to enact any other mythological character on the small screen.Interestingly, the talented actor who has been recently approached by the makers of two upcoming mega mythological shows to play two different roles has turned down the offer.

A source says, “Gurmeet was recently offered to play the mythological character of Vali from Ramayan for a separate series that is being made for his character. He was also offered to play Arjuna from Mahabharata but he rejected it.“Lord Ram’s character made Gurmeet a household name and the actor admits that people still remember him for that. Usually, actors get typecast after playing such characters and Gurmeet doesn’t regret rejecting both the characters.”

Gurmeet says, “It was a great opportunity and an honour to play Lord Ram on screen which people still remember and call me Ram wherever I go. I’m glad that image of mine is still popular. Since I’ve played the biggest mythological character on screen, it will be very difficult for people to accept me as any other mythological character.”

Meanwhile, Gurmeet Choudhary is all set to showcase his never-seen-before avatar in his forthcoming film “Wajah Tum Ho” which is slated to release on 2nd December this year. Gurmeet says people are fascinated by things that are forbidden, and it attracts the audience more toward erotic thriller movies. Sana Khan is seen doing steamy scenes in the trailer of the film which has created quite a buzz in B-town. On being asked if he thinks sex sells a lot in the country, Gurmeet told a news portal: “I think people are really more intrigued by things that are forbidden as that brings along some mystery element to it.”

Gurmeet, who is a popular name in Indian TV Industry says “Wajah Tum Ho” has “more depth” than what one sees in the trailer.“More than the bold content, I would describe ‘Wajah Tum Ho’ as a murder mystery with interesting twists and turns. We all enjoy watching such stuff privately, so what’s wrong if one is doing it in a film,” he added.

Directed by Vishal Pandya, who has directed films like “Hate Story 2” and “Hate Story 3”, “Wajah Tum Ho” also stars Sana Khan, Sharman Joshi and Rajniesh Duggall. The trailer of Wajah Tum Ho has crossed 10 million views on YouTube in just 12 hours of its release.

So that answers all questions, or does it? Shah Rukh Khan has given some bang on quotes in a recent interview and one of them has made us wonder if it has ever happened to him in the first place. Yes, it has got to do with this ‘turn on’ quote that he gave to a leading entertainment daily at an interview. With his next, Dear Zindagi set to release this week, isn’t it obvious that he’d be talking about, well, life? So yeah, there he is, seated next to his young co-star, Alia Bhatt, talking about the HUGE age gap between them and what kind of actors he likes working with. In a lot of ways, we do believe in the same. “I think actors of the younger generation feel older when they work with me. I tell them, ‘C’mon guys, you can be a little younger.’ I get really turned on by actors who are trying to do something new and not just coming on the set, saying their lines and leaving. When I see them, I feel I’m exactly like them, so I don’t feel the generation gap. Actors don’t have an age, which is not to deny my age, but I genuinely think that the maturity of your sense of acting does not define your age. Can we ever see your baby, Shahid Kapoor? Ever since Mira Rajput has given birth to baby Misha, we’ve been going crazy, wondering what the baby looks like. Of course, she is quite lucky for she has two really good looking and talented parents but we want to see more! As we had reported earlier, Sasha took off for a vacation with his nuclear family, i.e. with wife Mira and baby Misha. All this time we’ve only been seeing a neatly wrapped cloth tugged onto Sasha’s chest. Nothing else. Is it too soon to show the baby’s face? Maybe that could be the reason why they’re avoiding to do so. However, it doesn’t justify this tease we constantly face, courtesy this hot couple! They always make heads turn at the airport looking fab with their baby. This is perhaps the third or fourth time we’re seeing Misha clad in a piece of cloth.

From all the pictures, its pretty evident that she’s a daddy’s girl. The Rangoon actor is clearly too attached to his daughter. In fact, in every interviews, he just can’t stop talking about his baby girl and what it’s like to be a father. Isn’t that sweet? The once brattish Sasha has become such a doting dad that it’s still hard to believe. Not just that, he’s even giving parenthood tips to people around him and his ex, Kareena Kapoor Khan. The Begum, who is also expecting a baby, bumped into the actor and all they spoke about was parenthood and babies! When Shah Rukh Khan starts talking about women, he can just go on and on. There’s so much respect he holds for women that he just instantly becomes more attractive for this nature of his. With his upcoming film, Dear Zindagi that revolves around Alia Bhatt and with the director being Gauri Shinde, Khan reasons out on why he likes working with women. He has some really good insights on why he thinks women understand and are able to emote better. This is not his first time that he has worked with a woman director and perhaps its his past experiences that make him state why he finds working with woman, rather enjoyable. In an interview with a leading entertainment daily, Khan stated that women add a different sensibility to cinema.

“I’ve always enjoyed making films with women directors. I think their sensibility is a little effeminate.I use this word because I see men around who are also like that, perhaps including myself. You don’t need to be effeminate physically; it’s just the sensitivity that’s there. I’ve been brought up that way and I believe that the harshest and toughest of women have the gentlest of hearts,” states the actor. Two things to notice here, one is that men don’t usually accept their effeminate side but Khan here cares a damn. He is quite honest and its very much visible. Second is how men tend to look down upon women but Shah Rukh is all praises! He states that he does enjoy their way of functioning and also lauds his Dear Zindagi director. Having a tremendous experience in the field of cinema, when Shah Rukh compliments a person, it definitely is a big deal! Karan is called the Shah Rukh Khan of TV. We don’t know exactly what gave birth to this tag but we guess it is Karan’s brooding personality that reminds people of SRK’s intense roles in his younger days. As Raman Bhalla, Karan has been keeping the stubble for a while now. We are totally drooling over SRK’s look in Dear Zindagi. Karan also shares fan edits made of SRK and him. It’s already known that Hina Khan has exited the show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and that her character Akshara is soon going to die in the show. But before her exit, the viewers will get to witness Bidaai actress Parul Chauhan‘s entry. Yes! That’s what we have got to hear. For those who were upset with the sudden news of Akshara’s death on the show let us tell you that Parul is not replacing Hina, she will instead play the role of Karthik’s step-mom, Mrs. Goenka.

Both Hina and Parul recently shot for a scene together on the show, which is Parul’s introductory sequence. Parul will be seen playing a very different role from what she has done till date. The character will be “an over-ambitious, money-loving mother”. We also hear that actor Sandeep Rajora has been roped in to play the role of Karthik’s father.

Their scene, which has got leaked, sees the two women meeting at a temple. Mrs.Goenka enters in a posh car, surrounded by body guards. Both Akshara and Mrs. Goenka move towards the idol with a thali full of puja stuff. Just then, Akshara slips and her puja items accidentally fall on Goenka’s thali. She gets shocked to see Akshara’s kumkum(vermillion), suhaag ki chunri, etc. in her plate. The scene is symbolic of the exchange of roles that the show is going to witness.

They brought him when he was just 50-days old and now he is a big boy. One year has passed and these three have become inseparable. Karan’s bond with Naughty has only become stronger. While Ankita is the one who gets to spend more time with the dog, she has confessed it many times on Insta that their pet is more close to Karan. She calls him ‘Papa ka chamcha or Papa ka ladla.’

Karan doesn’t get much time with him because of his professional engagements but whatever time he stays at home he spends it with Naughty. K Subash, son of R Krishnan passed away today morning. The Tamil movie director and writer for Hindi films, breathed his last on November 23, 2016. While reasons of his death are still unknown as of now, as soon as we find out, we’ll update you. With a brilliant experience in the field of filmmaking, Subash first started his career as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam in Naayagan. After the same, he ventured out to direct his own films. Subash’s first film was Kaliyugam with Prabhu. It was his second film Chatriyan starring Vijayakanth that gained him immense popularity. The cop film was not just a blockbuster at the box office but also garnered him a lot of appreciation for directing action sequences splendidly.

Since then, he directed several police drama films such as Abhimanyu with Parthiban in lead role. K Subash’s filmography also includes, Ayul Kaidhi, Vaakumoolam, Uthama Purushan, Pavithra with Ajithkumar, Ninaivirukkum Varai, Eazhaiyin Sirippil with Prabhu Deva, 123 with Prabhu Deva and his brothers which was Subash’s last directorial in Tamil. After having a failed attempt at donning the director’s cap in Bollywood, he chose to stick to writing scripts for the industry. It was Subash, who wrote the script for Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster, Chennai Express which was directed by Rohit Shetty. Akshay Kumar’s recent successful ensemble comedy, Housefull 3’s script was also penned by Subash.

Subhash worked as the chief associate to Bollywood director Raj Kumar Santoshi in many films. It is quite saddening to learn that the industry both, Tamil and Hindi, has lost such a talented individual. Hopefully his soul rests in peace.

The year is about to end with a bang, thanks to Aamir Khan’s Dangal. The actor just released the second track, Dhaakad, of the film. Slated to release on December 23, the film is a biopic of Mahavir Phogat. Hailing from a village in Haryana, Phogat was blessed with four girls. But that didn’t kill his spirit of bringing India the first gold in Commonwealth Games 2010’s wrestling genre through his daughter. The film is an inspirational story of the wrestler, who trained his girls into becoming wrestlers and earning gold medals for the country. For the film, Khan has done a tremendous work to bring authenticity to his performance. The trailer left everyone intrigued as it’s too real! Dangal’s first song was released ahead of Children’s Day, Hannikarak Bappu, which was a rage among fans! And now the makers have released the second song, Dhaakad which is literally high on women empowerment!

What’s Hot?
When it comes to Dangal, you’ll see the best of Aamir Khan as his ‘perfect’ shenanigans start functioning. The result of the same can be seen in this second track, Dhaakad, released by the actor. Keeping in check that the film is about women empowerment, this track glorifies how challenging women might not be a good idea for they can kick some butt! Dhaakad is sung by Raftaar and you can be pretty sure of the fact that this track is going to rise up to the first position soon!

The magic of Raftaar’s singing reflects beautifully with the scenes that are going on in the video. Aamir’s daughters bring it on as they beat the sh*t out of the boys in the ring. The background score further amplifies the emotions of what Aamir as his daughter’s coach goes through as he fills his chest with pride. Even the girls have some swag as they break bones in the ring of their opponents. The music is scored by Pritam and he has brilliantly blended the Northern taste of music to that of current generation taste. Just like ADHM, even Dangal’s music has been justified so far, courtesy Pritam. The song has a raw urban feel to it when you hear it.

What’s Not?
While the track is very catchy and even the lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya are very inspirational, there’s something familiar about the track. The initial tone of the song will make you wonder if you’ve heard it before. Well, didn’t that happen with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s songs as well too, right? Despite that, the magic of Pritam’s track caught on with fans as the highlight of the film became his music.

Will the same happen with Dangal as well? Of course, it’s too soon to tell but the music score sure is quite catchy. It won’t take time for this track to reach the top of chartbusters this week. This year there have been a plethora of films from various genres. We have already seen Salman Khan strutting it out like a superstar in Sultan, and Shah Rukh Khan’s double act in FAN that somehow didn’t manage to win much fans, despite being his best performance in years. Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra’s Kapoor & Sons finally showed us that mainstream cinema can accept one of its leads be a homosexual. Fawad Khan as a homosexual man was accepted by everyone, though he is finding it difficult to get acceptance with political parties for his nationality in real life. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has become the highest grossing sports biopic of all time, though it is cannot help not being a 100 crore PR plug for the real Dhoni.

Then there is Tiger Shroff‘s whose Baaghi was a hit, but couldn’t replicate the same result with A Flying Jatt. So there have been movies that have impressed, and there are some that have not. But we are not talking abou movies here. We are talking about the scenes that may have looked awesome when you watch it, but when you take them separately, can create a nice fun meme.

This is probably the second time that Arjun Kapoor will be playing double role but there’s gonna be a lot of fun here! As we know by now, the Kapoor lad is going to star in Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan that stars an ensemble cast. This will be the first time Arjun and his uncle Anil Kapoor will come together. If reports are to be believed, the duo will be at loggerheads in the film. However, this double role twist made by Bazmee sure is intriguing. Turns out Arjun and Anil both will have double roles, one with a pagdi and one without. And the first look of Arjun is finally out! The actor took to his Twitter account to share this picture where you can see a serious sardar as well as a goofy Arjun! For the first time, we’ll see him play the role of a Sikh. The 31 year old actor along with his chachu and director, had a celebration held in Delhi yesterday for the same.

Being an out and out Punjabi film, it also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Athiya Shetty in lead roles. Hailing from Mumbai for most of his life, Kapoor actually underwent dialect classes to perfect his Punjabi accent so it sounds more raw and magnetic. As we had earlier told you how the shoot will have Indian as well as foreign locations, the Chandigarh shoot starts soon. The Mubarakan team landed in Delhi last night and well, you know how Punjabis like to keep it grand. There were chariots and men in suits and a lot of bhangras that took place! Arjun even tweeted the same as he shared a glimpse of the madness the occurred in Delhi. Well, you gotta admit that Kapoor with his twin sure bring out two really cool personalities. While Punjabi guys are already hot, this Sikh avatar of the actor sure is gonna turn a lot of heads to his direction!

Next year we’ll gonna see a lot of celebs step into the dual roles arena. Already as we stated, Arjun will be one of them. In a recently conducted poll, we asked you out of the nominated contestants Rahul Dev, Manveer Gurjar, Nitibha Kaul, Bani J and Gaurav Chopra — who should be eliminated from Bigg Boss 10? Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor made their Bollywood debut together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the year 2007. 10 years from that, the duo will once again reunite onscreen for Rajkumar Hirani in 2017! Oh we remember their debut. Not only did SLB make it grand for her wanted the world to see what talent landed on his doorstep. While the film didn’t do well, both actors definitely have reached places since then. Perhaps it was the director acting as a lucky charm for RK Jr and SK have had quite a run at the box office. This year, especially, has been splendid for both the stars. And guess what, it’s gonna be even better for they’ll soon be reuniting. This is probably the first time post their debut film that they’ll be coming together again in Dutt’s biopic.

Oh but the good news doesn’t end there. We hear that the actors will be romancing each other in the film. Now would you believe that? Ever since Saawariya, we never saw them together but looks like after 10 years, they will be reuniting after all! A leading tabloid was stating quoting, ” Her (Sonam Kapoor) character is not reflective of any particular woman but is a fictional amalgamation of the many women Dutt dated through the 1980s and 90s.” As we know already, Dutt’s biopic has been on Rajkumar Hirani’s mind for quite a while now and for almost two years Ranbir has stated that he very much a part of the project. Although, this project has taken quite a while to finish with the pre shooting scenes but the biopic will finally go on floors next year. Sonam’s is a special appearance in the film. Not that she’s representing a specific lady in Dutt’s life but she’ll be forming many of them in one personality. Perhaps, this is to save the identity of all the women Sanjay has dated. As we already told you, RK Jr will be donning three looks in the film. It was revealed earlier that he is going to go through massive transformation for the film. Of course, we won’t be able to see much of it but we just hope Kapoor keeps dropping hints of the same. It’s quite exciting to see both the Kapoors face camera once again, don’t you think? Yes, they’ve had a history and blah blah but you can’t deny that they did look fab when they made their debut.

The fact that it’s gonna be a romantic angle between them itself calls for some excitement. A lot of actresses in the past were associated with this role. From Kangana Ranaut to Deepika Padukone to Katrina Kaif, all names were said to romance him in the film. However, at the end of the day, it’s Sonam who has managed to bag the role.
