Happy New Year star is currently basking in the success of his latest Diwali release

Since the 1990s, Shah Rukh Khan’s movies have been creating fireworks at the box office during Diwali festival. And the superstar’s latest Happy New Year (HNY) continued the trend by turning out a money-spinner. But King Khan rules out any superstition associated with the release date of his films.

Movies like Baazigar (1993), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Om Shanti Om (2006) all released during Diwali and all were runaway hits.

Shah Rukh’s HNY released a day after the festival of lights and he says superstition has got nothing to do with it. “It is good to release films on a holiday,” he adds.

“You get that extra benefit of a day off…I am lucky. The movies (that released during Diwali) have done well, but I am not superstitious like that. Any day is good if I get a good holiday,” Shah Rukh, whose 2013 blockbuster Chennai Express released in August to coincide with Eid festival, told on phone from Mumbai.

Riding high on the success of Happy New Year, the 48-year-old is not certain about how much generous Goddess Lakshmi will be this time too.

But he is happy that the audience is liking the Farah Khan directorial, which minted a record Rs 44.97 crore on the opening day of its release.

“I was expecting a lot of people to watch the film as it was a holiday. And the number is indicative of the fact that so many people came to see the film. If they came and didn’t like it, it would’ve been sad. I’ve gotten to understand that 70 to 80 percent liked it as a family film,” said Shah Rukh, whose Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. produced the heist drama that is packed with typical fluff and humour of Farah Khan.

While some critics have given positive reviews, quite a few panned it. But Shah Rukh is unperturbed by the critics’ mixed response to the film because his aim is to entertain masses, not just classes, he says. “I respect their views. But I don’t make films for such a niche audience of five to seven people. I try to make films for larger spectrum of people,” he said.

The film’s success also spells fortune for its ensemble cast – Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah. Despite the success of Happy New Year, work for the star, down with cold and fever, doesn’t stop. He will be tied up with Fan and Raees in the coming months.

While masala entertainers mostly click with the audience, asked if he would like to feature in any Hollywood adaptation, he said: “I’d rather do a film that is more original. But if somebody comes up to me with a story and says it’s an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and if I like the film, I would do it.”

He also shared that he likes Hollywood films like Bad Boys and Men In Black.

The Prime Minister was impressed with Bang Bang actor’s initiative for creating Swachh Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday lauded Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan for joining the Swachh Bharat mission and said the actor would be an inspiration for everyone.

“Am sure you all will get inspired by Hrithik’s efforts! He has made a significant effort towards creating a Swachh Bharat. MyCleanIndia,” Modi wrote in his Twitter handle.

His comments came hours after Hrithik Roshan tweeted: “Swachhbharat I started cleaning my own surroundings and learnt so much. Started with my lanes in Juhu. 2day I pledge 2 keep my home, my roads, my city, my country clean. I also take responsibility 2 teach n empower others 2 follow. BMC is doing their best. sometimes d load is much even 4 them.I take responsibility 4my surroundings. #swachhbharat. Wish my children ver here wth me 2watch their daddy help clean d neighbourhood. No better way 2 teach dan by example.”

The Kick actress was forced to be confined in her hotel in Ottawa, Canada. Find out why!

Jacqueline Fernandez faced a torrid time when she was forced to stay indoors in her hotel in Ottawa, Canada. The Kick babe was in town to shoot for her international film, when a shooting incident near Parliament Hill resulted in Canadian government ordering lockdown of the city. With the shooters out in loose, everyone were adviced to stay indoors until the situation eased. 

The incident took place at just  30 minutes drive from Jacqueline’s hotel and she and her film crew were not allowed to venture outside for nearly 48 hours.

Recalling the incident, the sizzling hottie Jacqueline said,”We were about to start shooting, when we were informed that we can’t travel as there had been a shootout in the city. The main gates of the hotel were locked so that no one could go out. We were locked in for two days and kept watching the news to stay updated, and were only hoping that everyone would be safe and no lives were lost. My family also called to check on me after they saw the news. Our shooting was interrupted for two days, but we have resumed now.”

Now that’s some experience which Ms Fernandez would like to forget. Right peeps?

Soni has become the fourth contestant to bid adieu to Bigg Boss 8

Soni Singh, who entered the Bigg Boss house with much fanfare has been eliminated from the show. As you will already know, Gautam Gulati, Sonali Raut, RJ Pritam, Minissha Lamba, Soni, Sushant Divgikar and Diandra Soares were nominated for eviction this week in Bigg Boss 8.

This week’s nomination process had some twists in its bag. Instead of the secret nominations, this week saw open nominations. Contestants had to put foam on the face of other housemates they wanted to nominate.

While Pritam, Gautam and Sushant were announced safe by host Salman Khan in yesterday’s episode of the high voltage reality show, the fear of elimination was still lingering over Sonali, Minissha, Diandra and Soni.

However, it was Soni, who had to leave the house since she received the least number of votes. Singh’s journey in Bigg Boss 8 was certainly full of ups and downs. While she had mild fights with Sonali, but at the same time she found a brother in Upen Patel. However, their brother-sister relationship became the target of certain viewers who thought that the two are going over the top.

Anyway, now that Soni is out of the Bigg Boss house, we wish her all the best for future. We will certainly miss her seeing in Bigg Boss 8. Will you BollywoodLifers?

The day of eviction was here. And out of the four contestants in the danger zone, it was Soni Singh who was shown the door

It was that time of the week when host Salman Khan interacted with the contestants of Bigg Boss 8. And like always the episode had enough drama. For those of you who missed it, fret not, coz we are going to tell you what all happened.

Salman-The singer

Salman had good friends and composers Sajid-Wajid as guests on the show. Knowing Salman’s antics on the show, it was not a surprise when he joined the music composers to sing a medley together, of a few of his super hit tracks. From the Partner title track, Mashaallah fromEk Tha Tiger and Mora Jiya from Dabangg, Salman had his audiences look at him in awe. Also Sallu revealed that the Bigg Boss 8 music track was composed by Sajid-Wajid.

Role reversal

The inmates of the house gathered to play a game devised by Bigg Boss according to which Salman asked each contestant to answer a question put up for the another. It was fun to see RJ Pritam and Sonali answering questions put up for Ali Quili Mirza and Gautam respectively.

Urvashi  Dholakia’s entry

The winner of Bigg Boss season 6, Urvashi Dholakia, was present at the sets of Bigg Boss much to the surprise of inmates of the house. Urvashi claimed RJ Pritam and Gautam to be her favourite as she ranked the contestants from one to thirteen. The winner of season 6 also reprimanded the contestants for not taking the initiative for captaincy and lauded Diandra for voicing out her views. Urvashi asked the contestants to throw away the herd mentality. She also adviced that the relations formed within the house don’t last in the outside world.

Contestants guess who would be evicted

Salman asked the inmates of the house, that who would be shown the door today from the four lovely ladies of the house – Minnisha, Soni, Diandra and Sonali. Arya Babbar, Puneet Issar and Gautam voiced their opinion, guessing who would leave the house today.

Soni Singh evicted

Salman cleared that Diandra and Sonali are safe, making it clear that one out of these two – Minnisha and Soni, will be shown the door. Ultimately it was Soni Singh who was evicted from the house, which led to an emotional Soni to say a teary goodbye. The inmates of the house gave a rousing farewell to Soni.

I don’t have a say in which actor Sanjay sir is going to cast, but I am glad he’s chosen Priyanka because she is a fantastic actor and my friend. Women don’t have issues with each other all the time. I have heard a lot of stories (about heroines not getting along), but I feel that the perception is changing, and it’s no longer the reality.”

The leggy lass further added, “I have known Priyanka since I was a nobody; she was one of the top actresses at that time. I knew her through common friends when I wasn’t even in the modelling industry. We have gone out together. I have been to her house. Even today, I am very comfortable around her.”

In the last episode, we saw the Rathi family realising that Vikram (Karan Goddwani) was still in love with Meenakshi (Kanika Maheshwari). Further, Baiji, Prema (Vindhya Tiwari) and Disha (Jyoti Sharma) were seen making preparations to rescue Rajkumar (Gaurav Sharma). He was taken to the hospital for a check-up where Sandhya (Deepika Singh) kept an eye on him. Disha meanwhile failed to complete the task assigned to her. On learning about her failure, Baiji decided to save Rajkumar. The episode ended with Rajkumar eating the food brought to him by Lohya, and fainting afterwards.

In the upcoming episode, we will see Sandhya being shocked to see Rajkumar’s ill health. She will question Lohya on how Rajkumar fainted, considering the fact that she had her eye on him all along. Lohya will tell her that he ate the food and fainted right after having it. The episode will end with Sandhya stating that the dabba had been sent out from her place and wondering on who would have attempted to poison Rajkumar.

Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan AKhtar’s Do had created a buzz with the revelation of the first look from the film, showcasing the actors engaged in a game of chess. Big B was seen seated on a wheelchair against the backdrop of the famous Haus Khas village in Delhi, with Farhan sipping on his hot beverage. An intriguing scene indeed it was and we now hear that Do has been renamed as Wazir.

The reasons for the change are still unknown. But what we are aware of is that Mr Bachchan will be seen playing a chess master, followed with Dil Dhadakne Do actor Farhan, who will essay the role of an ATS officer in the film. The film is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and also features Aditi Rao Hyadri, as Farhan’s love interest.

Durga is slowly working towards proving Dev’s innocence. Will she be victorious? Read on to know more…

In the last episode, we saw Durga(Sanjeeda Sheikh) requesting Raima’s(Kishwer Merchantt) maid to speak the truth in the court in order to save Dev (Bhuvnesh Mann) from being proven guilty. The same was however refused by the maid. Rajnath (Ayub Khan) and Sakshi (Simone Singh) on the other hand were seen testifying against Dev. They were shocked to learn that Raima wanted to inform Dev about Payal earlier. The episode ended with the maid stating that Dev may have been innocent in the crime after all.

In the upcoming episode, we will see the maid narrating exactly what she saw. Further, Durga will explain the relation of Payal with the current case. Dev on the other hand will be mocked by his jail mates. The episode will end with Dev coming across Naveen Mathur, present in the same locker as him.

The 2 States actor is more than happy to be associated with Duggu’s soccer team

FC Pune City Monday added a fresh dose of Bollywood glamour to their team, roping in actor Arjun Kapoor as their brand ambassador for the inaugural season of the Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament.

Another Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan is the co-owner of the club.

“The enthusiasm and interest in the sport is what drives me to be a part of this mega league. Football has always been very dear to me and I have grown up playing and following football. So, it was natural for me to take the first opportunity to associate with a promising football club in the Indian Super League, more so if it represents India’s youth capital Pune,” Arjun Kapoor, a fan of English premier league club Chelsea FC, said in a statement Monday.

“I would like to thank Hrithik and the Rajesh Wadhawan Group for giving me this opportunity.” Hrithik also spoke of his fellow showbiz star’s inclination towards the sport as a teenager.

“We are proud to have Arjun Kapoor as FC Pune City’s brand ambassador. I have known him for a long time and ever since I remember, football has been an integral part of his life. Arjun embodies dynamism, grit and an unbridled energy – those elements that form the core of FC Pune City,” said Hrithik.

“This coupled with his love for the sport, made him an obvious choice as a brand ambassador for the club. I would like to thank Kapil Wadhawan for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful club.”

A new record for the longest liplock in a Hindi film has been set by Sushant Singh Rajput and Swastika Mukherjee

Ranveer Singh was sure that his liplock with Deepika Padukone in Ram-Leela would be the best and the longest in the history of Bollywood, but it was cut on the editing table. Now, Sushant Singh Rajput is set to break the record for the longest liplock, for his next movie Byomkesh Bakshy.

The actor shares a long kissing scene with co-star Swastika Mukherjee. An insider reveals that it runs into several minutes and is the longest smooch scene on the Hindi film screen.

What’s surprising is that Sushant was unaware of the scene before it was shot. Before the shot, Dibakar had vaguely told Sushant that the scene required a peck on his lips. On the other hand he had briefed Swastika at length about the scene because he was keen to capture Sushant’s shocked expression without any rehearsals.

Dibakar confirms, “The scene was more than the kiss. It was about deception, intrigue and murder and I needed that something extra… that element of surprise that throws everyone off. But we had over-rehearsed it. The takes ended up being just like the rehearsals… there was no surprise! After six takes, eight takes, it was still the same. I was worried and then it struck me. I took Swastika aside and told her, ‘Kiss him before he can say anything — and we won’t tell him. Throw him off-guard’.”

The director further adds, “Sushant is a highly prepared actor. He does NOT like surprises sprung at him. We started shooting the scene as rehearsed, and then she did it. Kissed him on the lips, no holding back. The set froze, Sushant froze and then he recovered. The scene after that was highly electric because both of them were now watching each other warily not knowing what the other would do and that mistrust, suspicion and tension worked.”

Shraddha Kapoor: The Haider actor wowed us with her Tarun Tahiliani outfit. The actress looked simple yet classy in her golden and black kurta which she wore with a black chudidar. The minimal make up and accessories complemented the look very well.

Sonakshi Sinha: Sona attended the Diwali bash hosted by the Bachchans in a red and black saree by Masaba. Arjun Kapoor’s alleged ladylove carried her desi avatar superbly. She rounded off her look with huge danglers. Impressive must say!

Kareena Kapoor Khan: The diva looked as stunning as ever in her pink and red Sabyasachi lehenga. She sported the typical Indian bahu look with bindi and sindoor. Needless to say, Saif Ali Khan’s wifey absolutely rocked the traditional look.

Varun Dhawan: Known for his impeccable style, the actor was seen in blue patiala pants topped with a white button down shirt. He rounded off the attire with traditional black mojris. His front-spiked hair totally worked in favour of his handsome hunk.

Sidharth Malhotra: Sid opted for a conventional blue kurta with white pajama and sported the traditional kolhapuris for footwear. Of course with his bulked up physique and stubble, he’d be wearing rags and we’d still go gaga over him.

Here’s the latest goss from the sets of Action Jackson…

The trailer of Prabhu Dheva’s Action Jackson starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and others was recently released. But there was something unique that came to our notice when we saw the trailer. It seemed like the film had a store house of self-references.

For example, Ajay Devgn is named AJ in the film and that is Junior Devgn’s nick name, which only his close friends are allowed to call. Also there is a Prabhu Dheva reference in the trailer when Sonakshi Sinha tells Devgn, “You dance even better than Prabhu Dheva.” So we wonder what was this fixation about the references? Did Prabhu Dheva include his name in the trailer with some purpose?

While speaking to a leading daily Prabhu said, “That was not my idea at all. I wanted Sonakshi to say Hrithik Roshan or Shahid Kapoor’s name. But Ajay said, ‘Why others when we have you?’ So they put my name instead.”So that’s the reason behind the name calling. As a matter of fact Prabhu is also seen matching strides with Ajay Devgn as they walk together across the screen. Does that mean Prabhu is playing a role in the film? We wonder…

“No, none at all. Everyone felt like putting me in the trailer would create some kind of an impact. Given a chance I don’t want to face the camera at all,” says Prabhu while speaking to a leading daily. However, Prabhu prepares to go into a full-fledged acting role next in ABCD2 alongside Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor. We wonder whether there are any references about that in Action Jackson. What caught our attention during the nominations was Karishma’s choice of words against Puneet, who said that she found him ‘evilish,’ further stating that he was the reason for all the mind games in the house. Well though the term was a tad bit too harsh, but it somehow seems apt nonetheless, right peeps?

Praneet Bhatt’s Shakuni Mama comes out

In a special power given to captain Ali Quli Mirza, who had to further nominate two house mates for elimination this week, he chose Sonali Raut and Praneet Bhatt, stating their laziness towards work as the reason. Praneet aka Shakuni Mama’s horns were out in no time, where he was seen furious with Ali for the “invalid” reason. We feel Praneet overdid it and could have taken it all in his stride! Calm the Shakuni down, eh Mr Bhatt?

Ali vs Sonali 

We love how Sonali gave Ali an earful after he made a pass at her under the blanket, with him stating that it was done  in good humour. Calling his move cheap, Sonali brought the house down and warned the captain to keep away or he would get a “chamaat” from her very soon. Though Ms Raut has given us many reasons to not sing praises in her favour, we have to give her full points for this one! What say?

National jhadu champion

It was great to see RJ Pritam going the humorous way and mocking Sonali for her sweeping skills! Calling her a “national jhadu waali,” Pritam very cleverly ragged Sonali for her sloppy ways of sweeping, comparing the same with Minissha’s in turn asking her to “learn something” from Sonali. Where there is wit, there is a way we say!

Gautam or Upen?

Till now we have been seeing sparks flying between Gautam and Sonali, their antics being all the evidence needed to support the statement. Things however, seem to have taken a turn where something seems to be brewing between her and Upen. The two were seen getting cosy and sharing the same blanket, with Gautam in the other room stating that he didn’t require a girl to make it through the show. Is Mr Gulati being Mr J? Time will tell!

Though collections weren’t earth shattering on Monday, HNY ended up doing decent business at the box office

Farah Khan’s latest outing Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah has already entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club. The film released on Friday (October 24) and since then has got cash registers jingling and how! On day 1 the musical extravaganza collected Rs 44.97 crore and broke the opening day record of Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Dhoom:3. Over the weekend, HNY continued to rake in good money and by the end of three days it earned Rs 108.86 crore. Thus becoming the fastest film to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark at BO. On Monday, however the collections saw a dip as Farah’s directorial venture only managed to gross around Rs 15 crore.

So now the domestic total collection of Happy New Year stands at Rs 124 crore approximately. With no big films releasing this week, we are pretty sure Shah Rukh-Deepika starrer will make good money in the coming days as well.

The actor-director duo have been slapped with a defamation case for making a reference of the scam in their recently released Tamil film. Read on to know more…

The defamation case was filed here Tuesday in the magistrate’s court.According to complainant R. Ramasubramanian, a dialogue in the film suggested that corruption “had occurred” in the 2G spectrum case when the matter is still being heard in the court.

In Kaththi, Vijay mouths a dialogue that goes: “We live in a country filled with people that have looted crores of rupees using 2G waves.”

“How can a film conclude that all those involved in the 2G spectrum case are corrupt when the case is still being heard in court? This dialogue portrays all those people in poor light and damages their dignity,” Ramasubramanian said.

The court granted permission to file the petition and adjourned the case till Nov 11.

Kaththi, which released Oct 22, has turned out to be a blockbuster. It has raked in over Rs.50 crore in its opening week worldwide.

Shraddha’s item number from Ungli is finally out and wethinks its a good hear

The makers of Ungli have released the much-awaited item number Dance Basanti from their film which features none other than Shraddha Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi. While this club number is nothing extraordinary, we totally loved the Kapoor lass in the video. The Haider actress looks smoking hot especially in the red outfit. Also, we liked the part wherein Shraddha is dancing alone because she showcases this rockstar kinda attitude which we are pretty sure won’t go unnoticed. So brownie points to the ABCD 2 heroine just for that. Coming to the song, its upbeat and has foot tapping music but somehow its seems something is still missing. Maybe we were expecting way too much, who knows. Having said that, Dance Basanti is surely worth hearing.

Overall, Shraddha Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi’s dance number is quite cool and entertaining. However, we do think Ms Kapoor could have done a better job with her moves. After all, you do expect dhansu dancing when its a item number, hai na?
